Position: Assistant Professor (Tenure Track)
Stetson University’s School of Business Administration invites applications for a full-time, 9-month faculty appointment in Accounting at the rank of Assistant Professor (tenure track). The individual will be located at Stetson’s DeLand, Florida, campus but teaching responsibilities may include teaching hybrid or on-line. The Stetson School of Business is an entrepreneurially minded School dedicated to delivering an innovative and comprehensive business curriculum and experience to our students. Applicants interested in developing distinctive courses and programs that leverage interdisciplinary collaborations and experiential learning within the School and across the institution are preferred.
Qualifications:
The University seeks candidates who meet the qualifications noted below. Candidates should also have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, demonstrated collegiality, and the ability to work with multiple constituencies of diverse backgrounds. Evidence of professional activity sufficient to be qualified as “Scholarly Academic” as defined by AACSB and our School faculty qualification standards is required. Expertise in financial accounting and one secondary area (accounting information systems/data analytics, tax, fraud/forensics) are preferred.
For this tenure-track position, a Ph.D., D.B.A. or other terminal degree in accounting from an AACSB accredited institution is required by August, 2024; possession of a CPA license (or international equivalency) and relevant professional experience in accounting is strongly preferred. Experienced Assistant Professor candidates are expected to have demonstrated excellent teaching performance and have an active research stream with a record of publishing in academic journals. Entry-level Assistant Professor candidates are expected to demonstrate potential for effective teaching, preferably with some teaching experience, and scholarly activity that leads to publication in peer-reviewed journals. The teaching load is three (3) courses per semester.
Responsibilities:
Teaching responsibilities will depend on the candidate’s disciplinary expertise and may be face-to-face, hybrid, and/or on-line, undergraduate or graduate. Responsibilities may also include offerings for the University’s requirements in General Education (e.g., theme-based Freshman Seminars or Junior Seminars). Additional responsibilities include: undergraduate advising; assistance with student recruitment; university, college, and/or departmental committee service; professional engagement; and building partnerships with both Florida-based and national practitioners and potential employers. Engagement in multidisciplinary collaborations with other faculty is possible.
All candidates should demonstrate a passion for the highest quality of teaching and maintain appropriate academic qualifications consistent with AACSB and School of Business Administration standards.
The Department:
The mission of the M. E. Rinker, Sr. Institute of Tax and Accountancy (www.stetson.edu/accounting) is to offer intellectually challenging undergraduate and graduate education that facilitates the development of our students as successful accounting professionals. The focus of the department's educational program is excellence in teaching in a rigorous, yet supportive, learning environment that provides an academic experience infused with experiential learning, engagement with the profession and relevant technologies. The department currently serves about 90 undergraduate students and about 25 Master of Accountancy students. The department’s course requirements meet the CPA exam requirements in the State of Florida and offer a seamless transition from the undergraduate program into the Master of Accountancy program.
The School of Business Administration:
Stetson's School of Business Administration (www.stetson.edu/business) is one of less than 200 elite business schools that has both business and accounting programs accredited by AACSB International. The School's programs are based at our DeLand campus and on-line. The DeLand campus hosts all undergraduate programs in the Lynn Business Center, a modern classroom and computer lab facility. Graduate business programs are offered on-line, with potential for hybrid or on-campus programs going forward.
The School of Business Administration is well-known for its academically rigorous learningenvironment. The Community:
DeLand is a picturesque residential community of 30,000 located 20 miles west of Daytona Beach and 35 miles northeast of Orlando. The area offers extensive cultural as well as recreational activities.
