Full-time, Regular, Exempt Position

The University of Maine System is seeking to hire a Director of Risk and Safety Management. This position is a crucial leadership role at the University of Maine System, responsible for overseeing and implementing comprehensive Risk Management and Safety Management programs. The goal of this position is to ensure the safety, health, and environmental security of the university community, while aligning with regulatory requirements. The Director fosters a culture of safety and environmental responsibility, champions emergency preparedness activities, and leads strategic risk mitigation. This role is instrumental in preserving the University's assets, supporting its educational mission, and promoting a safe and compliant campus environment for students, faculty, and staff.

The work location can be either on the Orono campus of the University of Maine or on the University of Maine at Augusta campus.

Based on the qualifications and experience of the successful applicant, the annual salary range is between $120,000 to $130,000 plus a 10% employer contribution to the UMS retirement plan. Additional benefits include medical, dental, vision, and tuition waiver programs for employees and dependents. The UMS is a recipient of the Wellness Councils of America’s Well Workplace Award and offers a wellness program.

Required Qualifications:

  • Requires a master’s or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Advanced degree, training, and work experience demonstrating a broad knowledge of risk management, safety, environmental, and emergency management.
  • Minimum of seven years of relevant professional experience.
