Position, Department: Student Development Specialist, Student Success & Engagment

Type of Position: Full-time Hourly, Non-Exempt

Work Schedule, Hours per week: Monday-Wednesday 9am-6pm; Thursday-Friday 8am-5pm, 40 hours per week

Pay Range: $16.50 - $20.63 and determined based on relevant years of work experience.

Pay Grade: 51.51

Position Summary: The Student Development Specialist is responsible for assisting students with the college enrollment process and orienting students to college policies, procedures, resources, and technology. This position helps facilitate student learning to ensure students are successful in navigating the complexities of the enrollment process from admission through graduation. The Student Development Specialist builds relationships with students, engages them in the community of JCCC, and connects students with resources as needed.

Required Qualifications: Associates degree in an appropriate field 1 year customer service experience Attention to detail
Interpersonal communication skills Critical thinking skills
Ability to maintain the confidentiality of student information Interpersonal communication skills
General computer, data entry, and web knowledge skills

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree
Experience working with college students

Position Details: Job duties include but are not limited to:
  • SERVE AS THE PRIMARY POINT OF CONTACT FOR STUDENT ENROLLMENT NEEDS AND QUESTIONS- Provide expertise in the enrollment process to both new and continuing students. Research and resolve barriers to enrollment to assist students through the process. Appropriately refer students to other departments on campus as needed to facilitate student connections with resources. Performance is acceptable when: a. Students are provided with excellent service that helps engage the student with the college. b. Enrollment questions are answered accurately and student issues are resolved in accordance with college policy. c. Students are appropriately connected with resources in other departments in a timely manner. d. Students are prompted on the next step they need to take in the enrollment process. e. The confidentiality of student records is maintained in accordance with FERPA.
  • FACILITATE STUDENT LEARNING BY ORIENTING STUDENTS TO THE ENROLLMENT PROCESS, COLLEGE POLICIES, TECHNOLOGICAL TOOLS, AND CAMPUS RESOURCES - Provide instruction, guidance, and assistance to students regarding the enrollment process, college policies, and tools needed to navigate their college path. Introduce students to available campus resources to facilitate student learning and empower students to successfully engage in their college experience. Performance is acceptable when: a. Students receive accurate instruction on college policies, procedures, and the college enrollment process. b. Students are made aware of the technological tools available to assist them in the enrollment process. c. Students are acquainted with resources and activities available on campus as appropriate.
  • PROVIDE, RECEIVE, AND ACCURATELY PROCESS PAPERWORK RELATING TO THE ENROLLMENT PROCESS - Provide forms and information to students upon request. Receive and process forms returned by students in accordance with college policies and procedures. Performance is acceptable when: a. Forms and documentation submitted by students are received, date stamped, and reviewed for completion and accuracy. b. Paperwork is secured to protect the confidentiality of student records in accordance with FERPA. c. Student forms are processed accurately and/or forwarded to the appropriate department for processing in a timely manner.
  • ASSIST WITH PROJECTS FOR DEPARTMENTS WITHIN STUDENT SERVICES - Provide assistance with projects relating to the student experience. Utilize expertise in the college enrollment process in completing assigned projects. Performance is acceptable when: a. Projects are performed accurately. b. Projects are performed in a timely manner as assigned. c. Communication with students is engaging and helpful in assisting the student to progress in their college experience.
