Job Summary:

The University of Wisconsin, School of Medicine and Public Health, Department of Anesthesiology and SMPH Informatics and Information Technology team, is searching for systems engineer to support the physical and virtual computer infrastructure of the department. The successful candidate will also be responsible for managing the departments endpoints.

The School of Medicine and Public Health is in the process of centralizing the Information Technology resources and functions throughout the school. This position will be housed within the central Informatics & Information Technology team effective July 1, 2023. Specific details regarding any change in department and operational area will be communicated with the finalist in advance. The duties and expectations of this role will not change as a result of this project.

Responsibilities: Leads and/or directs work to create and maintain the institution's technical infrastructure by performing unique and strategically significant work, finding innovative solutions to highly complex technical needs to devise work approaches to ensure the long-term requirements of systems operations and administration are met under limited supervision. May lead, coordinate workload, or mentor other staff.
  • 25% Identifies, troubleshoots, researches, and resolves issues on unique systems, platforms, networks, and applications to ensure system security, confidentiality compatibility, and functionality according to policies, procedures, and regulations
  • 15% Designs, installs, configures tests, and maintains strategically significant and unprecedented automation, hardware, and associated equipment according to customer specifications to meet unit objectives
  • 15% Plans and coordinates system logistics, workflows, upgrades, and system security and affiliated procedures
  • 10% Documents and disseminates deployed systems, system upgrades, or changes to the appropriate entities according to established policies and procedures
  • 10% Installs firewalls, host and client access mechanisms, permissions, and user accounts
  • 15% Serves as a subject matter expert, unit liaison, and main point of contact for clients, staff, leadership, and vendors
  • 10% Identifies strategic technological and architectural needs and makes recommendations for improvement

Education:

Preferred
Bachelor's Degree
Computer Science, Engineering, or related fields.

Qualifications:

Required:
5 years minimum relevant work experience in an information technology field
3 years minimum work experience with the following:
Physical server, storage, backup, and network equipment
VMware virtualization software
Server Software (Windows Server and Linux)
Server security protocols and procedures
Windows Active Directory (GPO and User management)

Preferred work experience with the following:
Desktop computer and laptop deployment (Windows, MacOS)
Mobile device management using VMware Workspace One
Veeam backup software
Asset inventory software
Log file management software
Troubleshooting software and networking issues with desktops, laptops and mobile devices
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with and provide information technology support to a diverse group of university faculty, physicians, residents, nurse anesthetists, medical students, and administrative staff

Work Type:

Full Time: 100%

The Department of Anesthesiology has implemented a hybrid work option which will give employees the ability to work remotely up to two days per week after 90 days of employment with the Department of Anesthesiology, with approval from their supervisor. This hybrid option is under continuous assessment and evaluation going forward.
