PhD in Journalism or related field;
Minimum of three years of professional
journalism or media experience in positions that include writing,
reporting, editing, design, technology and/or multi-media
responsibilities;
Demonstrated commitment to excellence in
teaching and learning, as well as scholarship;
Commitment to diversity and inclusion.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preference given to candidates with any of the following:
- Background in sports media including sports writing and reporting, broadcasting, production and/or sports culture;
- Experience in the areas of social justice and inclusivity reporting;
- Experience with emergent media such as data-driven journalism, podcasting, interactive journalism, web development or digital storytelling;
- Experience using digital media software such as Photoshop and InDesign;
- Background in the management and operations of student media organizations;
- Experience with the fundamental principles of narrative journalism, whatever the medium: in-depth, empathetic, and creative story-telling;
- Some background in audio and video production and editing, with the ability to teach how to incorporate audio and visually based media into storytelling;
- A record of effective teaching appropriate to the applicant’s career stage;
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative setting;
- A record of mentoring students of diverse backgrounds in experiential learning such as undergraduate research.
