Summary Position
The Academic Coordinator of Alternative Start Programs provides strategic leadership and support for the development, implementation, and assessment of alternative start programming at the university. Working in collaboration with the Office of the Provost, Office of Admissions, the Global Education Center and other campus partners, the role is responsible for identifying and scheduling courses, monitoring academic credit, budgeting, and transfer equivalencies for Elon's alternative start opportunities. Additionally, the coordinator will serve as an academic advisor and coach to alternative start students before, during and following participation in all programs. The coordinator is also responsible for programmatic assessment as well as communication to various constituencies.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Identify courses and faculty appropriate for alternative start students. Work with international and domestic partners, the Registrar's Office, and University Counsel to establish and formalize program agreements related to courses, credit transfer equivalencies and teaching faculty.
  • In partnership with the Elon Global Start Site Coordinator, establish and review all program-related opportunities related to academics and student life.
  • Develop processes and communications for recruitment of alternative start program students. Create, implement and participate in recruitment initiatives including program orientations.
  • With the Office of Admissions, identify opportunities for alternative start program expansion and serve as lead facilitator for new partnerships.
  • Travel to new and existing alternative start locations to foster relationships with teaching faculty, program administrators and program participants (students). Assess and enhance alternative start programming annually.
  • Serve as advisor and success coach to alternative start students before, during and following participation in all programs. Collaborate with campus partners to ensure appropriate orientation and academic support for students admitted to the university following participation. Track the success and retention of students who participate in the alternative start programs.

    The Academic Coordinator of Alternative Start Programs reports to the Associate Provost for Academic Affairs in the Office of the Provost with a dual report to the Assistant Dean of Admissions who coordinates alternative start admission.



    Special Skills or Experience
    Knowledge of and experience using Microsoft Office package, specifically Word and Excel software. Experience with recognizing customer service concepts as they relate to working with primarily student and parent clients in a college setting. Ability to work independently and with little supervision.
