Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia is seeking qualified candidates for a Cashier/Accounting Assistant.

About the Role

This position reports to the Accounting Manager and is responsible for all cashiering functions for the university, performs various administrative and accounting duties, and assists the Accounts Receivable Coordinator in responding to inquiries on student accounts.

Specific duties include the following:
  • Processes all cash receipts for the university, including receiving and processing payments (cash, checks, and credit cards) for student accounts and various other departmental transactions
  • Prepares and balances the daily deposits for all university transactions
  • Reconciles the monies kept in the cashier drawer and in the Business Office safe
  • Answers and directs all calls for the Business Office
  • Responds to student/parent inquiries on student account charges, credits, and payments by telephone, e-mail, and in person
  • Assists with stock and gift reconciliations, as well as other general leger account reconciliations
  • Distributes accounts payable checks
  • Records Hollins Store daily activity to the general ledger
  • Prepares journal entries for various departmental charges, credit cards. and miscellaneous payments
  • Collects, delivers, and sorts mail for the Business Office
Position Qualifications

Successful applicants must have the following qualifications and experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of one year of cashier and/or general bookkeeping/accounting assistant experience
  • Microsoft Office suite proficiencies, specifically Outlook, Excel, and Word
  • Experience with Adobe Acrobat
  • Data entry and computer operations proficiencies
  • Strong customer service, written and verbal communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong organizational, detail, accuracy, and multitasking skills
  • Abilities to take initiative and resolve problems
  • Ability to be discreet and confidential regarding all accounts receivable information
  • Abilities to work independently and in a team environment
  • Ability to work in a highly interruptive environment
  • Ability to work effectively with all university and external constituencies
Preferred candidates will have the following:
  • Ellucian Banner experience
  • Online billing systems experience
  • Online credit card processing software experience
Once the selected candidate accepts a contingent employment offer, criminal history and credit history background checks will be conducted.
