The departments of History and of Near
Eastern Languages and Civilizations (NELC) seek to make a joint,
full-time, tenure-track appointment with the rank of assistant
professor in Medieval Islamic History. We welcome applicants who
specialize in the medieval period (600-1500) and in various
subfields, including (but not limited to) cultural history, digital
humanities, economic history, gender history, intellectual history,
legal history, political history, and social history. The
successful candidate will be expected to teach and advise at both
the undergraduate and graduate levels, including teaching general
surveys of Islamic history in the medieval period (600-1500), and
will have an excellent reading knowledge of Arabic, Persian or
Turkish and the ability to guide graduate students in the reading
of primary sources in at least one of these languages.
The appointment is expected to begin on
July 1st, 2022.
