Position Announcement
The position of Associate Vice President for Finance reports to the Vice President of Finance and Administration. Responsible for the operational management and administrative direction of the Division of Finance and Business Services, Procurement Services, Dining Services, Bookstore, and Printing Services. Reporting directly to the Associate Vice President for Finance are the Controller, Directors of Procurement Services, Dining Services, and Printing Services. Responsible for supporting the mission and vision of the University, Division of Finance and Administration as well as the Division of Finance. Provides direct oversight in the formulation, development, and implementation of strategic goals and objectives in the Division of Finance and Business Services as well as the auxiliary services. Represents the University on administrative matters for the division to include external entities, both public and private. May represent the Vice President in his/her absence.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • (40%) Responsible for preparing the Planning, Budgeting, and Accountability budget request for the respective departments/unit. Serves as the GRAMA Officer of the University. Recommends/interprets policies and procedures as they relate to current theories, practices, techniques, and operations and state, federal and other related laws, rules regulations and guidelines. Reviews the fiscal operations and transactions to assure proper control and accuracy of fiscal data for self-sufficiency of auxiliary and service enterprises and for appropriated budgets of respective departments/units.
  • (25%) Maintains state-of-the-art management techniques and procedures and holds line administrators under his/her direction responsible for efficient, effective management and performance. When necessary, responsible for the institution's bonding processes for bond-funded capital facilities through the Legislature, Board of Regents, and financial agencies.
  • (20%) Serves and participates in campus committees; e.g., Benefits, College Leadership, Enterprise Applications, PACE, Self-funded (insurance) Oversight, Summer University, UVU Foundation Investment, etc. Serves as administrative liaison for and meets with the Professional Association of Campus Employees. Performs other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Administration and Finance.
  • (15%) Meets individually with direct reports and has regular staff meetings with all direct reports. Responsible for performance evaluations of direct reports. Supervises the Director - Bookstore, Director - Dining Services, Director - Printing Services, and the Director - Procurement Services & Contract Services.


Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited institution with a master's degree related closely to the area of responsibility and five to seven years full-time experience in a strategic Leadership role.

Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities

  • Comprehensive knowledge of methods and techniques of accounting, auditing, and budget preparation.
  • Knowledge of principles for administrative organization, methods of control, auditing, budgeting, and fiscal management.
  • Knowledge of methods and techniques of financial and statistical research and analysis..
  • Skills in report writing and grant writing.
  • Skills with the principles, methods and techniques of effective supervision and personnel practices.
  • Skills with the principles and techniques of public speaking and public relations.
  • Ability to exercise interpersonal, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to apply effectively general principles to specific conditions.
  • Ability to follow written and oral procedures and oral procedures and instructions exactly.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to interact effectively with all segments of the institutional community in a dynamic environment.
