The Research Associate is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the laboratory, assist in research projects, and help in experimental design and development of new protocols. The Research Associate will perform a variety of laboratory procedures, collect data, organize experimental results, maintain an accurate, detailed, and complete records of work performed, and conduct data analysis. The candidate will contribute to the advancement of Kansas City University by helping to ensure high quality outcomes in research endeavors.

Job Description:
The Research Associate is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the laboratory, assist in research projects, and help in experimental design and development of new protocols. The Research Associate will perform a variety of laboratory procedures, collect data, organize experimental results, maintain an accurate, detailed, and complete records of work performed, and conduct data analysis. The candidate will contribute to the advancement of Kansas City University by helping to ensure high quality outcomes in research endeavors.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Research I
- Assists with research projects and scholarly activities
- Supports faculty research projects through execution of assigned experiments, analyzing data, accomplishing literature searches and assisting with manuscripts and poster preparation
- Assists in running the laboratory
- Performs experiments for research activities
- Participates in mentoring students in research
- Represent department and the University favorably and in accordance with established Core Values and Expectations
- Perform other duties as assigned or directed to meet the goals and objectives of the organization and department
- Fully meets the responsibilities of Research I
- Manage research projects and scholarly activities
- Support faculty research projects through implementing experimental design, analyzing data, accomplishing literature searches, manuscript writing and poster preparation
- Manage the research laboratory including coordinating the activities of research students
- Required to utilize their specialized academic training and experience in supporting students in their research projects, training, and mentoring students in various laboratory techniques, and troubleshooting as needed
- Other administrative tasks (i.e., filing, preparing documentation)
- Participate in developing department goals, objectives, and systems
- Actively participate in team and University meetings
Research I
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Minimum of one year experience working in a biomedical research laboratory preferred
- Must possess working knowledge of research and experimental protocols
- High level proficiency in troubleshooting and solving problems
- Ability to analyze a situation and exercise good judgment and discretion as appropriate
- Proficiency in basic computer applications required
- Demonstrated ability to maintain effective communication skills, interpersonal skills, and the ability to work with faculty, students, and staff
- Must have excellent organizational skills, be detail-oriented, and a self-starter
- Requires the ability to meet deadlines and complete assignments accurately
- Fully meets the responsibilities of Research I
- Master’s degree or Bachelor’s degree plus 2 years equivalent experience
- 3+ years’ experience working in a biomedical research laboratory
