Job Summary
Under the direction supervision of the AVP, and general supervision of the Director, Beach XP, the Student Fellow will assist with the designing, implementing, and administering campus-wide student engagement, advocacy, and support that is equitable, inclusive, and provides culturally appropriate services to enhance the quality of campus life.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the creation, development, and implementation of educational, social, and emotional support activities and programming that are equitable, inclusive, and provides culturally appropriate services to serve students as assigned.
- Serve as a point person for students in Beach XP to provide support and referrals to appropriate services.
- Outreach to students regarding events, programming, and department offerings. Meet and confer with department leadership and staff to understand specific needs and create and tailor solutions to identified needs and requests.
- Participate in regular trainings and development opportunities to learn and engage and gain greater understanding of the field of Student Affairs, the campus community, and the student population.
- Meet with staff mentor to connect theory to practice and develop as a Student Affairs professional.
- Ability to speak, lead and professionally present in public.
Experience giving presentations in a variety of frameworks and
content areas.
- Ability to exercise sound time management skills and control of
projects and work pro-actively to mitigate delays, budget problems
and any additional complication that may jeopardize programming
and/or events.
- Ability to maintain equanimity during emergencies and
resistance from clients including the ability to mediate conflict
effectively.
- Can manage and mediate conflict effectively.
- Well-versed in student development theory, leadership
development, etc.
- Committed to and has a thorough understanding of issues of
diversity, inclusion, and social justice in higher education.
- Demonstrates proficiency in using technology, including social
media, as part of planning and promoting programs.
- Ability to work as part of a team through close collaboration
with colleagues and coordinate with others.
- Knowledge of higher education services and high impact
practices.
- Strong writing skills to produce reports and synthesize large
amounts of information.
- Ability to manage, organize and demonstrate command of a
complex and continuously changing array of information, dates,
places and people in a systematic way in order to optimize
efficiency and minimize duplication of effort in the process of
completing projects.
Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."
Education and Experience
Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field required.
Physical Summary
Medium work - Job involves lifting heavy-weight objects (20-40 pounds) and/or 20% - 40% of the job involves standing, squatting, kneeling, or walking. May require pushing or pulling objects within the weight limits.

Compensation
Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.
Hiring Range: $3,764 - $3,850 per month commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training.
CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,764 - $4,604 per month.

Time Base
1.0 time-base, 40 hours per week.
Duration of Appointment
This is a temporary position for one (1) year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.
