Job Summary
The Academic Advisor - Special Programs and Learning Communities Specialist, will provide the day-to-day academic advising to the College of Engineering's (COE) general undergraduate students population and to students participating in the various learning communities and special programs developed by the COE to support retention and graduation.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise pre-engineering majors, continuing engineering majors, and prospective engineering students in the general engineering undergraduate population and those participating in various COE learning communities and special programs. Track student progress using CMS data to ensure that progress in degree based on College's degree progress rules. Training of advisors and supervising of student assistants.
- Plan, implement, and supervise COE's learning communities and special programs services in collaboration with the Associate Director of Advising and the Director of Outreach and Recruitment. Collaborate with faculty on the analysis and evaluation of data pertinent to learning outcomes for students participating in learning communities and special programs.
- Assist ESSC Advisors with planning and coordinating advising activities i.e. Advising and Registration of newly admitted students, Mandatory Advising Activities, and Student Success Workshops.
- Collaborate with faculty advisors and appropriate university offices to assist fully declared engineering majors.
- Other activities related to student success of initiatives as identified by the College of Engineering.
- Knowledge/experience with MS Office to include: Word, Excel,
PowerPoint, Access to track and maintain data and prepare/format
data reports.
- Ability to plan and organize tasks and projects and collaborate
with staff, faculty and students.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with an ethnically and
culturally diverse campus population

Education and Experience
- Equivalent to a bachelor's degree with upper or graduate
coursework in counseling and guidance, human relations, or related
fields and three years of professional experience in one of the
student services program areas required.
- Master's degree is preferred.
Physical Summary
Sedentary work - Involves mainly sitting. Walking and standing are minimal. Lifting is limited to lightweight objects. (10 pounds or less).

Compensation
Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.
Hiring Range: $5,025 - $5,666 per month commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training.
CSU Classification Salary Range: $5,025 - $7,159 per month.

Time Base
1.0 time-base, 40 hours per week.
Duration of Appointment
This is a temporary position for two (2) years with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.
