This position is located in Columbus, Georgia.
The Division of Risk Management and Safety at Auburn University is excited to begin the search for a Stormwater Specialist to support the Fort Moore Stormwater Management Program! This is an exciting opportunity to help support Fort Moore’s regulatory compliance with their NPDES MS4 stormwater permit through a combination of field work and outreach. The role includes surface water monitoring, IDDE investigations, providing stormwater awareness training, construction site erosion and sedimentation control inspections, collaboration with campus and community operations, and more.

Essential Functions
- Serves as a stormwater specialist for the Fort Benning environmental inspection, permitting and regulatory compliance programs.
- Works independently to identify and assist with solving complex environmental problems relating to surface water quality and stormwater permitting compliance.
- Plans, prepares, coordinates and facilitates implementation of Fort Benning Phase II NPDES Stormwater Permit and perform on-going inspections and provide technical assistance for the erosion and sedimentation control practices used at all Fort Benning construction sites.
- Assists in implementing Fort Benning’s stormwater management program, including surface water sampling and illicit discharge investigations plus associate data management.
- Performs spill response duties as part of the Fort Benning Spill Response Team.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Physical Science, Biological Science, Environmental Science/Engineering, Occupational Safety, Industrial Technology or closely related science
Substitutions allowed for Education:
8 years of experience in developing and administering environmental compliance programs accepted in lieu of education requirement

Desired Qualifications
- Progressive environmental experience with implementing federal and state regulations for surface water quality protection or other related environmental programs.
- Progressive experience in water resources and stormwater management preferred with experience in stormwater planning, design, and construction of storm water facilities with experience in project management or program administration and ability to effectively direct and guide teamwork effort.
- Training in GIS is desirable, as is a working knowledge of OSHA HazWoper regulations. Certification in Stormwater BMP Inspection & Maintenance and/or training in erosion and sediment control practices is also desirable.
- Construction, public works, engineering design, or public utilities is also applicable.
