About the Technical Institute for Environmental Professions:
The Technical Institute of Environmental Professions (TIEP) at Unity Environmental University provides an efficient and cost-effective path to the workforce for those seeking their first job, career changers, and individuals looking to enhance their skills. TIEP was established to bridge the skills gap in the job market by offering affordable associate degrees and certificate programs. With short, 1 to 2-credit courses available in two-week terms throughout the year, students can easily manage their schedule and pace their learning. This flexible approach allows them to start and stop as needed while pursuing their goals.

The Opportunity:
In this role, the Instructor for the Veterinary Technology program performs all professional duties including, but not limited to, curriculum development, assessment and evaluation, lab supervision, student advising, teaching, and clinical outreach. The Instructor is responsible for collaborating with the Director of the Veterinary Technology Program to ensure proper clinical placement while meeting all program requirements. In addition, the Instructor will work with the Learner Success Coordinators to ensure that the student is making satisfactory progress throughout the program.

Day to day responsibilities:
  • Work with the Director of Vet Tech Program to ensure program strategy, program competencies, goals, essential skills, and outcomes.
  • Aid with the implementation of this new program.
  • Support with building the processes to conduct a comprehensive and systematic program assessment and review in alignment with the College-wide assessment system.
  • Work with clinical partners on ensuring clinicals competencies are met In collaboration with the Program Director assess and determine current and anticipated needs for all required equipment, instructional resources and supplies, library, and technology resources.
  • Work with program director in updating and maintaining lab protocols as necessary
  • Maintain communication with the Director of the Vet Tech Program
The Curriculum and Instructional Duties of the TIEP Faculty Veterinarian of Vet Tech Program include but are not limited to:
  • Teach course(s) in area of expertise.
  • Work with the Director of Vet Tech Program, the Dean of TIEP, and instructional designers to develop course philosophy, objectives, templates, master syllabi, and evaluation and assessment methods for the curriculum.
  • Gather and maintain data on the course and program specific outcomes.
  • In collaboration with the program director review and assist with the selection of all applicable instructional resources (textbooks, online resources, and instructional materials).
Qualifications

Do you have the skills?
  • Associate or bachelors degree from an American Veterinary Medical Association accredited program or currently credentialed as a veterinary technician.
  • Three - five years field experience.
  • Proven track record in building out new program(s) in higher-ed or at a non-profit.
  • Ability to function effectively within a matrix organizational structure, maintaining open lines of communication while being discreet, courteous and well poised.
  • Ability and willingness to work with students from diverse political/socioeconomic backgrounds and a wide range of physical and academic abilities.
Preferred skills:
  • Higher education leadership experience.
  • Teaching experience

Location: Pineland Farms, New Gloucester, Maine
Just a half hour from Portland, Unity Environmental University Headquarters, Unity Environmental University Distance Education, The Technical School for Environmental Professions, and the School of Environmental Business & Sustainable Ventures are based at the Pineland Farms campus. The facilities are within easy access to one of the fastest-growing cities for startups in the country.

Work Schedule:
Work hours are specific to the requirements of this position and can include days, evenings, weekends. Working extended hours may be required as needed and Unity Environmental University employees must be flexible and cooperative in fulfilling their responsibilities while meeting the Colleges needs.

Although At Unity Environmental University Enterprise employees are generally scheduled to work at their base location, there are times when travel is necessary and employees are required from time to time to attend events, meetings or work temporary assignment at any At Unity Environmental University location.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, it is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand or walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The use of either hand for repetitive movements such as grasping, grasping, and turning, and fine manipulation is required as is the ability to use the telephone for internal and external communications.
