Position Summary

The Department of Communication Studies ( CST ) at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse invites applicants for a tenure-track position in Communication Studies with an emphasis in media. We are a large and robust department that prioritizes excellence in teaching. We offer a student-centered curriculum that emphasizes the importance of undergraduate research. Required Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Communication Studies by the time of appointment (August 28, 2023) with primary expertise in media communication. ABD will be considered. The degree must be earned by the personnel review held in the spring of the first year.
  • Ability to teach existing course offerings including Emerging Media & Communication Technology, Media Industries & Audiences, Multimedia Production, and Media & Society.
  • Ability to utilize our new Center for Media Production and Research in teaching. The Center offers students high-caliber media production equipment, virtual reality experience, and opportunities for user experience and other forms of digital media research.
  • Ability to teach the Communication Studies department’s basic course, Communicating Effectively, and contribute to teaching our research core curriculum, which includes Introduction to Communication Studies, Communication Theory, Research Methods, and Senior Research Project.
  • Knowledge of how to support diversity, equity, and inclusion through teaching.
  • Minimum 2 years of university-level teaching experience.
  • Active research agenda and commitment to departmental and university service.
Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates with experience as the instructor of record. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop new courses for our growing Media Studies major and minor, as well as our interdisciplinary Digital Media Studies and Design minor. Faculty teach on a 9-month contract at the university load of 4 courses per semester and may have options for summer and winter sessions if interested.
