About the Opportunity

Summary of Position:
This position provides logistical support and oversight for events held on the Mills College campus including set-ups and strikes, maintenance and repair of events-related equipment, and maintains neat and clean appearance of specific locations around campus.

It supports the Mission statement of Mills College by delivering excellent support and services to students and their families, staff, and faculty, as well outside clients. Through operational excellence, it advances the initiatives of the strategic plan, by ensuring goals are established, monitored and measured to meet the plan's timelines and objectives. This position plays a significant role in supporting and creating a vibrant and inclusive campus life, enhancing the image of the College, and supporting sustainability programs.

Essential Job Functions:

Assigns day-to-day tasks of the Events Set Up Technicians to ensure jobs are being completed on time and correctly. Checks task list each morning and coordinates division of tasks with the set up staff.

Works with the Director to determine best way to time and implement tasks in coordination with large campus-wide events, involving multiple departments.

Participates in the interviews and selecting candidates for the replacement of Senior Events Set Up Technicians job openings.

Conducts site inspections of buildings and grounds and reports problems and issues to the Director of College Events. Makes recommendations for how to resolve the problems and works with Facilities, as needed, to ensure closure. Tracks progress for the issues.

Responsible for neat and clean appearance of public spaces, meeting rooms and event's storage areas.

Be available to work all major College events.

Conducts regular inventory of set equipment.

Performs related duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of:
  • Common tools, materials and equipment.
  • Basic repair and maintenance principles
  • Record keeping techniques
  • Basic computer programs such as email, MS Office suite, Google suite, etc.


Skills/Abilities:
  • Read, write and speak English fluently
  • Plan and direct the work of others effectively.
  • Solid communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must have excellent customer service skills.
  • Problem solving skills in assigning equipment and rearranging event layouts.
  • Excellent judgment
  • Meet or exceed the college's attendance and tardiness guidelines.
  • Maintain inventories for work area
  • Work in crews or independently.
  • Understand and follow directions and complete work assignments on schedule.
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Take appropriate steps to promote and sustain effective working relationships within a diverse multicultural environment.
  • Work safely in compliance with College Injury and Illness Prevention Plan.


Education and Training:

High school diploma and at least one year of working experience in a similar job function. Valid California driver's license with excellent driving record. Must be able to drive box vans and flatbed trucks.

Physical, Mental and Environmental Demands:

Physical:

Lifting, pulling, or pushing heavy objects up to 50 lbs.

Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate hand and power tools and equipment.

Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching. Standing for extended periods of time.

Frequent interruptions and changes to the work schedule.

Visual acuity to perform the work.

Working on ladders and at heights.

Working with paint, glue, and other repair/maintenance materials.

Environment:

Indoor and outdoor environment. Seasonal heat and cold or adverse weather conditions.

May work around loud equipment such as leaf blowers and power washers.

Driving a vehicle to conduct work.

Working around and with cutting tools and machinery having moving parts.

Evening and weekend hours required.
