Job Summary

Under general supervision, the individual will provide comprehensive academic advising to undergraduates in the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics with particular emphasis on assigned caseload of pre-majors.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive academic advising to CNSM general undergraduate population, using basic interviewing and counseling techniques, in one-to-one appointments, “quick questions,” and in workshop settings.
  • Collect, compile, analyze, and evaluate student data, reports, and/or documents; for the CNSM Advising Center. This includes, but is not limited to, advising forms, degree progress reports, Education Advisory Board (EAB) data, CS Link reports, and student files.
  • Identify students at risk and prioritize those needing interventions and help. Advise students on where to get assistance; help set up support groups.
  • Maintain cooperative and working relationships with academic departments, university services, programs, offices, and the University Center for Undergraduate Advising for the purpose of creating a seamless university advising environment.

  • Ability to develop, present, and modify/implement changes in academic advising to work seamlessly with changes introduced by the University's registration, enrollment process, and degree requirements.
  • Ability to initiate expeditious solutions to students' problems associated with academic appeal, retention, probation, graduation, administrative reviews, etc.
  • Ability to analyze the causes of students' problems through transcript examination and personal interviews and then provide appropriate academic and career counseling, recommendations, and/or referrals to assist students to succeed.
  • Excellent technical and computer skills required.
  • Familiarity with university policies and regulations.
  • Knowledge of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Education and Experience
  • Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field and two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas required.
  • Master's degree preferred and may substituted for one year of experience.
Physical Summary
  • Sedentary work - Involves mainly sitting. Walking and standing are minimal. Lifting is limited to lightweight objects. (10 pounds or less).

Compensation

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

Hiring Range: $4,610 - $5,097 per month commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,610 - $6,556 per month.

Time Base

1.0 time-base, 40 hours per week.
Duration of Appointment
