Wayne State University is searching for an experienced Supervisor, Student Center Operations - (req975) at its Detroit campus location.

Essential functions (job duties):

JOB PURPOSE
Oversee facilities and operations for the STEM ( science, technology, engineering, and math) Innovation
Learning Center, Community Arts Auditorium, St. Andrews Hall, and other Student Center-managed spaces including physical plant, building maintenance and refurbishing projects, student restaurant/entertainment venues, building mechanical systems and building security.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Provide primary essential leadership to STEM Innovation Learning Center, Community Arts, St. Andrews Hall, McGregor Memorial Conference Center, and other locations managed by Student Center and Campus Reservations. Jointly manages and maintains all performance and event components of Student Center and Campus Reservations locations.

Supervise overall operational needs for STEM Innovation Learning Center including building tenant access, audio-visual needs, maintenance projects, safety and security. Responsible for coordinating maintenance projects to include purchasing new or replacement equipment for the facility and events.

Jointly supervises more than 60 student and temporary employees and Staff Association technicians. Responsible for hiring, firing, and evaluation of student employees as well as temporary employees.

Provide feedback on the reservation process and assists with setting policies and procedures for the Student Center and Campus Reservations and reservations staff to effectively operate the building and provide better customer service.

Participate with establishing departmental strategic plans, goals and objectives. Monitors work activities and resources to make sure established goals and objectives are achieved. Assists and participates in special projects.

Perform other related duties as assigned including similar functions as needed in the Student Center.

Unique duties:

Qualifications:

Education Bachelor's degree
Additional Education Information: Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university with coursework in business administration, student affairs, student personnel management or hotel management or related field. Master's degree preferred.

Experience Experienced (minimum 2 years of job-related experience)
Additional Experience Information: Minimum 2 years of event management experience, including prior experience with customer service, building maintenance, and employee training.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Supervisory Skills - Ability to delegate work, set clear direction and manage workflow. Strong mentoring and coaching skills. Ability to train staff and develop subordinate's skills. Ability to foster teamwork among staff members.

Technical Knowledge - Working knowledge of HVAC plant operations, lighting systems, plumbing systems, audiovisual equipment, and methods and techniques for facility upkeep and renovation.

Communications Skills - Interpersonal skills, resolving conflicts, promoting cooperation, administering contracts, and providing outstanding customer service.

Problem-Solving Skills - Decision making and creative problem-solving skills to identify operational solutions and respond to emergency situations.

Business skills - Verbal and written communications, budgeting, and accounting for revenues and expenditures.

Computer Skills - Proficiency with Microsoft Office including spreadsheets, database and reporting tools
