We are searching for an experienced Research Assistant/Research Associate - Dept of Oncology at our Detroit campus location.

Essential Functions (Job Duties):

Perform laboratory based scientific techniques or clinical science (human subjects) research. Design and perform experiments. Participate in implementing research objectives, ensuring compliance with all legal, regulatory and protocol guidelines. Assist staff with experiments/research protocols as required. Communicate with principal investigator and Postdoctoral scholars/fellows on the status of research.

Collect and log laboratory results, clinical outcomes and/or survey data. Evaluate and perform data analysis using graphs, charts or tables to highlight the key points of the research results collected in accordance with the research protocols as stipulated. Proofread and edit research data and documents to ensure accuracy.

Assist principal investigator with writing methods and summarizing/organizing data to be used in preparing and presenting presentations for professional, scientific and academic conferences and submittal to academic and scholarly peer-reviewed journals.

Maintain the laboratory work areas including routine maintenance on laboratory equipment as required. Order and organize required research supplies and records. Maintain cleanliness and organization of workstation.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Unique Duties:

Focus on epigenetic mechanisms of stem cell fate, genome stability and cancer epigenetics, and reprogramming and transdifferentiation, using genomics, and bioinformatics approaches. Integrate functional studies and computational analysis of next-generation sequencing data (e.g. epigenomic and transcriptomic data).

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree required for Research Assistant and Research Associate in a related field of study preferred.

Minimum of two years job related experience for Research Associate.

Excellent Oral and written communication skills, strong analytical skills and creativity, and the ability to work independently and in a team.

Ability to analyze, summarize and interpret research findings and data in reports and spreadsheets and communicate results. Knowledge of scientific integrity principles. Excellent time management and organization skills. Microsoft office software skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree required for Research Assistant in computer science, computational biology, bioinformatics, statistics, genomics, or related field with at least 3 years experience. Master's degree required for Research Associate in computer science, computational biology, bioinformatics, statistics, genomics, or related field with at least 2 years experience. Computer programming skills in at least one language. Experience with R or other statistical software packages. Experience with genomics datasets such as gene expression or next-generation sequencing. General knowledge of biology.

Working Conditions:

The Kidder lab focuses on stem cell and cancer genomics (e.g. ChIP-Seq, RNA-Seq, Hi-C, Hi-ChIP, MNase-Seq, RRBS, DNA-Seq, etc), genome stability, and reprogramming using experimental, genomics, and bioinformatics approaches. We integrate functional studies and computational analysis of epigenomic and transcriptomic data. Dr. Kidder's lab (http://benjaminkidderlab.com/) Typical work environment may include a laboratory and/ or office environment. May require working non-standard business hours including evenings and weekends. May be required to travel to scientific conferences.
