We are searching for an experienced Pre-Faculty Fellow - Public Health at our Detroit campus location. Essential Functions (Job Duties):

This Pre-Faculty Fellowship position falls under the Pathway to Faculty Program. We invite applications for a Public Health/Pre-Faculty Fellow to be appointed as a full-time post-doctoral scholar in the Department of Public Health beginning in August 2023. This fellowship involves an initial three-year appointment subject to the successful outcome of annual reviews. Upon attainment of expected milestones and agreement of the program administration, you may transition to the position of tenure-track assistant professor after completion of the second year of the fellowship.
We seek an active and engaged colleague with demonstrated research, teaching, and service interests in ELIMINATING HEALTH DISPARITIES AND SOCIAL INEQUALITIES. Topical areas of interest may include but are not limited to: gun violence and crime; neighborhood and built environment impacts; chronic disease; forced migration; food and housing insecurity; substance use, addiction, and recovery; disability; COVID-19, HIV/AIDS, or other infectious diseases; trauma and mental health; and health care access and delivery.

Candidates will have the support of a mentoring team matched to their scholarly interest and aspirations and should have the ability to develop collaborative research efforts in the metropolitan Detroit area. We seek a colleague with the trajectory for an active research program, demonstrated potential for published scholarship, and an ability to draw on this research to inform future teaching and service. Candidates engaged or who wish to be engaged in multidisciplinary research, community-based research collaborations, and social justice/advocacy research are encouraged to apply. We value candidates committed to
community-based intervention research with vulnerable, underserved, and urban populations. This evidence-based research may include a range of quantitative and qualitative methods (e.g., ethnography, Photovoice, and mixed methods).

Unique Duties:

The selected pre-faculty fellow will have protected time for research while developing experience in teaching, culminating in opportunities to lead courses in the undergraduate public health curriculum. Apply for external funding. Conduct research leading to publications. Prepare to lead undergraduate courses in public health Participate in service activities as appropriate. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Candidates must possess a PhD, DrPH, or equivalent doctoral degree in a public health-aligned discipline; or must have their degree conferred by August 15, 2023, for a position starting with the Fall 2023 semester. Candidates who additionally possess an MPH are encouraged to apply. Candidates whose research expertise complements those of the faculty in the Departments of Public Health and intersects with topics of broad public health significance.
