POSITION PURPOSE

The Accounting Coordinator is responsible for various accounting responsibilities within the Business Office, including student payroll processing and purchasing card maintenance.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Process student payroll, including federal and state work study and federal payroll tax deposits.
  • Research, understand and explain regulations and policies including federal non-resident payroll and federal and state work study.
  • Serve as co-administrator of the College's purchasing card program.
  • Ensure purchasing card compliance with the College's policies and procedures.
  • Calculate and report Washington state sales and use tax.
  • Reconcile specified bank accounts and general ledger accounts on a monthly basis.
  • Process journal entries.
  • Train staff across departments on Business Office procedures pertaining to student payroll and purchasing cards.
  • Assist with year-end financial statement audits and Form 990 reports as needed.
  • Cross-train with accounts payable and payroll functions and serve as backup.
  • Develop various payroll and financial reports for departments on an as-needed basis.


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Work effectively in a collegial manner with all constituents, including Business Office staff, other College staff, faculty, students, alumni and vendors.
  • Communicate verbally and in writing with staff, faculty and students.

  • Perform and understand complex accounting procedures necessary to the position with a high level of accuracy and efficiency.
  • Interpret and apply regulations and policies, including payroll taxation issues at the state, federal and international levels.
  • Work under pressure in a fast-paced environment to meet deadlines.
  • Prioritize workflows.
  • Lead trainings and presentations.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the use of computer programs, software applications, spreadsheets, and/or word processing.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • An associate's degree in accounting or two year's accounting experience.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • A bachelor's degree in business or accounting.
  • Experience in payroll processing, higher education, or nonprofit/governmental accounting.
