We are searching for an experienced Assistant/Associate Professor College of Education at our Detroit campus location.

Essential Functions (Job Duties):

The College of Education at Wayne State University invites applications for an assistant professor in English Education in the Reading, Language, & Literature Program area to begin in Fall 2023. The successful candidate will have research, teaching, and service responsibilities each semester (fall and winter).

The successful candidate will join the Division of Teacher Education (TED) whose faculty, staff, and students are committed to urban education and social justice. TED’s Reading, Language & Literature (RLL) program prepares educators and leaders in the fields of English Language Arts Education (7-12), Early Elementary and Upper Elementary Literacy Education (PK-6), and Children’s Literature through coursework that emphasizes the relationship between culture, language, and learning and the significance of language education for educational access and equity and social justice in a democratic society.

Located in the cultural center of Detroit midtown, Wayne State University (WSU) is within walking distance of major museums, theaters, and music venues. It is one of only two public urban universities in Michigan with the highest possible designation for both Research and Community Engagement from the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. WSU’s 200-acre campus is home to 13 schools and colleges and nearly 28,000 students. WSU offers over 350 academic programs across the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels.

Essential Functions:

Pursue an active research program in English education.
Procure grants.
Teach and develop undergraduate and graduate English education and literacy courses, including in-service initiatives for practicing teachers.
Supervise and direct graduate essay projects, theses, and dissertations.
Advise masters, education specialists, and doctoral students in English Education and Reading, Language and Literature Education.
Participate in collaborative efforts with colleagues in the College, University and professional community.
Participate in Division, College, and University academic and collaborative activities.

Qualifications:

Earned doctorate (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) degree in either English Education, Literacy Education, Curriculum and Instruction, and/or Teaching & Learning with a specialization in English Education, or a related field.

Minimum of three years of experience working in 7-12 school contexts.

University-level teaching experience, including on-campus, online, and hybrid formats.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working in urban, racially and linguistically diverse, and inclusive settings. Experience with State level initiatives. Experience with national and state accreditation. Record of publications in peer-reviewed journals.
