Assistant Professor, Teaching – Sport Administration & Management

Wayne State University is searching for an experienced Assistant Professor, Teaching – Sport Administration & Management at its Detroit campus location.

Position Purpose :

The Division of Kinesiology, Health, and Sport Studies in the College of Education at Wayne State University seeks a full-time, 9-month Assistant Professor – Teaching (non-tenure track) with specialization in Sport Administration and Management to teach graduate and undergraduate and graduate courses, advise students and provide service to the program/division/college/university. The Sport Administration and Management program contains over 150 undergraduate majors, 70 masters students, 50+ undergraduate minors, and 35 students pursuing accelerated undergraduate-to-masters degrees. The program is one of the fastest-growing in the College of Education and offers student internships in all levels of the sport industry including, professional sport teams, semi-professional teams, collegiate athletic departments, elite athlete development settings, K-12 athletic programs, and corporate sport companies.

Essential Functions :

• T each face-to-face, hybrid and/or online courses in the Sport Management undergraduate and Sports Administration graduate programs.

• Advise undergraduate and graduate students related to coursework, internships, and career preparation.

• Coordinate some undergraduate-level initiatives and programs (i.e. Honors option, student organization, professional development activities, student success initiatives, etc.).

• Assist divisional and program faculty and administrators with student recruitment and retention initiatives, program assessment, establishing field/practicum experience sites, and other duties required to meet organizational needs.

• Serve on departmental, college, and/or university committees.

Qualifications:

• Ph.D. in Sport Management, Sports Administration, Kinesiology, or related field.

• Evidence of effective university teaching experience, including face-to-face instruction using best-practices in course design.

• Evidence of online teaching experience, including course development and instructional design, online pedagogy, and course delivery.

• Evidence of effective use of the Canvas or related learning management system.

• Demonstrated ability to advise undergraduate and graduate students in coursework, internships, and career preparation.

• Proven ability to interact and collaborate effectively with diverse groups of colleagues and students.

• Demonstrated effective oral and written communications skills.
