Academic Services Officer I, VET-SSS
Wayne State University is searching for an experienced Academic Services Officer I, VET-SSS at its Detroit campus location.

POSITION PURPOSE:
Academic Services Officer I/Success Coach reports to the Senior Director of the University Advising Center and works closely with the manager/staff of the Office of Military Veterans Academic Excellence (OMVAE). This position supports the student success initiatives that enhance the retention mission of the VET-SSS Grant. This is a Grant funded non-ESS track position.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Participate in interviews of the VET-SSS applicants to determine level of academic need, self -efficacy, work ethic, eligibility for the VET-SSS program, and develop VET-SSS Student Contract and Goal & Action Plan.
Develop and/or support student success initiatives that enhance the retention mission of the VET-SSS grant through:
Work closely with the other VET-SSS Success Coach to develop online and face to face workshops and intervention programs to promote success strategies for VET-SSS students on academic probation as well as student who are making adequate academic progress.
Work as a member of the OMVAE advising team and act as a liaison to other units as appropriate.
Continuously develop knowledge of best practices and tools in the areas of advising and learning communities.
Participate in the preparation of reports using student enrollment and retention data to support VET-SSS student success initiatives.
Other duties as defined by the VET-SSS Grant.
Must be available to work evening and weekend hours as needed and requested.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in student success, education or related fields.
Ability to work with and maintain confidential documents.
Ability to assimilate extensive knowledge of academic programs, policies and requirements.
Excellent planning, organizations and time management skills with the ability to multi-task and
efficiently prioritize workload.
Critical thinking skills and the ability to propose and implement effective solutions to issues and/or
problems.
Good oral and written communication skills.
Computer literacy required.
Previously established acceptable attendance and performance patterns.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Prior military experience preferred.

- A minimum of two (20 minute) contacts per semester via
appointment, phone, email, SKYPE, text, virtual platforms or social
media for each program participant.
- Assisting with the development of the Grant related Success
Seminars and the Summer Learning Academy.
- Coordinating with the Office of Financial Aid FAFSA completion initiatives.
