Wayne State University is searching for an experienced Academic Service Officer I/II - Student Success Initiatives - Warrior 360 (req1030) at its Detroit campus location.

Essential functions (job duties):

Warrior 360 (W360) is a comprehensive student support program and community that supports the success of up to 200 incoming first-year students each academic year through to graduation. In partnership with a team of other Success Coaches, Coordinators, and departments across the university, this ASO I/II will coordinate W360’s pre-first year experiences. This ASO I/II will lead the development of recruitment communications and college preparation activities for incoming FTIACs. Working alongside the Director of Student Success Initiatives & Academic Partnerships, this role is key in our efforts to welcome new students to our community. As part of a broader student-centered strategy, Warrior 360 and this ASO I/II will help students acquire and strengthen the academic and personal skills necessary to successfully persist at Wayne State University and to challenge themselves as leaders beyond graduation.

Coordinate a 7-day residential summer experience for incoming first-year students(W360) in partnership with W360 coaches and leadership .

Synthesize and present data on KPI's (engagement at initiatives, learning outcomes and quantity of W360 membership.)

Work with the Director to develop a communications strategy to help welcome students to our community.

Work collaboratively across campus with key offices (The Office of Undergraduate Admissions, New Student Orientation, Housing & Residential Life) to offer students a transformative pre-first year experience.

Maintain a caseload of 15 W360 members; meet with students to track academic goals, progress, and well-being.

Advance the community to help students thrive intellectually and personally.

Collaborate with faculty, staff and other departments such as the Office of Multicultural Student Engagement, the Office of Student Financial Aid, Student Disability Services, Learning Communities and Career Services to develop programming and meet students’ needs.

Communicate effectively and accurately academic and non-academic requirements, policies and procedures.

Remain informed of university and national data regarding academic retention and persistence to inform strategies to promote student success.

Maintain collaborative working relationships with faculty, University committees and advisors in a coordinated effort for delivery of services.

Help promote understanding of program guidelines and utilization of resources by maintaining website and other materials with current program information.

Work with Director and departmental staff to prepare program reports.

Participate in University and departmental programming and activities.

Assist with on-going needs assessments.

Actively participate in national and regional programs and conferences

Perform related duties as assigned.

Unique duties:

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in education, human services or social/behavioral sciences required for an Academic Services Officer I.

A Master’s degree in higher education, counseling, student affairs or related field for an Academic Services Officer II.

Two years of experience (graduate or professional) in student supervision/advising and program leadership experience.
Strong commitment to inclusive and equitable student success.

Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with others by phone, email, interpersonally, or in small and large group presentations.

Excellent organizational and analytical skills.

High degree of proficiency with standard office productivity software, especially MS Office 365.

Ability to work irregular hours and participate in limited travel.

Preferred qualifications:

At least one year of experience (graduate or professional) in student affairs and/or related education services work with emphasis on learning community pedagogy preferred.

Knowledge of first-year experience programming, learning community programs, peer mentor training programs, etc.
Knowledge of Wayne State University.

Ability to communicate across large bodies of prospective and incoming students.

Strengths in long-term planning, attention to detail and working with a campus network.

Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, both in person and virtually.

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Master’s Degree in Education, Counseling, or related field.

Five years of experience in student support, student success, development, education, or academic advising.

Preferred qualifications:

Experience in supporting students through intervention, academic recovery and persistence
