Assistant Director for Diversity and Belonging
Position Summary
The Assistant Director for Diversity and Belonging will work collaboratively with the Associate Dean of Student Affairs to expand diversity-related educational opportunities, develop student-centered initiatives that cultivate a sense of belonging, and enhance the onboarding and transition experience of new students. This is a full-time, 12-month position.
Specific Job Functions
- Oversee the development and implementation of diversity programs for the campus community, including but not limited to heritage month celebrations, diversity week, and other co-curricular programs in partnership with faculty Serve as an educational resource to students, faculty, and staff on issues related to diversity and belonging. Co-advise identity-based student organizations (Black Student Union, Disability Awareness Club, and Sexuality and Gender Alliance) Serve as an advocate for the needs of students from minoritized backgrounds Manage the daily life of the Cultural Center, including fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment, overseeing reservation requests, and general upkeep
International Student Support
- Develop programming that supports the onboarding, retention, and overall success of international students, including an International Student Orientation Collaborate with campus partners on advising international students on cultural and social adjustment, health insurance, driver’s license, banking, other related issues
First-Year Experience
- Support and participate in new/transfer student orientation planning processes, including Orientation Leader training Teach one section of Westminster 101, a first-year college transitions course
Other Administrative Responsibilities
- Oversee the diversity programming budget Hire and supervise the Cultural Center work-study student Other duties as assigned by either the Associate Dean or Vice President of Student Affairs
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree, 2-4 years of relevant work experience, or combination of education and relevant experience Master’s degree in Education, Student Affairs, or related field is a plus
- Deep understanding of diversity related concepts (equity, inclusion, belonging, minoritized communities, social justice, power, and privilege) Demonstrated skill for program development and execution and group facilitations and trainings
This position is supervised by the Associate Dean of Student Affairs: Student Success and Inclusive Excellence.
