Are you a forward thinker and confident working on changing motion-based technologies? Grand Canyon College of Arts and Media is looking for a Technical Director.  You will have the opportunity to mentor and train theater staff and students in the construction of sets and technical operations for our school performances. 

What you will do: 

  • Manage, supervise, and act as a primary technician in scenic construction.  Prepare cost estimates for productions, maintenance, and facility or equipment improvements. Construction, installation and dismantling of all scenic elements.

  • Maintains the performance spaces, lighting and sound equipment and related supplies.

  • Maintains scene shop and its equipment, materials, and facility spaces.

  • Assists in recruiting, training and assignment of volunteer or paid technical staff (student workers) for each show.

  • Ensures correct design, functionality and placement of lighting, audio and scenic elements for performances.

  • Establishes training protocol for student stage crew and ensures training and safety protocols are followed.

  • Direct crew in set up, testing, operation of carpentry and rigging equipment including portable staging, risers, chain motors, fly system, hydraulic lifts and other motorized equipment.

  • Routine administrative responsibilities, completion of required reports, documentation of safety incidents, etc.

  • Manage Black Box and main stage safety in collaboration with other CAM production management.

  • Other duties assigned.

What you will need:

  • Bachelor's Degree in discipline related to fine arts and theatre.  Some experience in fine arts production.

OR

  • Minimum 3 years’ technical theatre experience in set construction and lighting technology. Sound Engineering experience is a plus.

  • Must have a valid AZ driver’s license.

  • Flexible work schedule, evenings and weekends required during productions.

  • Provide a positive example to students by supporting the University’s Doctrinal Statement, Ethical Position Statement and Mission of Grand Canyon University.
