Position Announcement
The Department of Health Care Diagnostics & Therapeutics at Utah Tech University (UT) in St. George, Utah, invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor / Program Director of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) starting Fall Semester 2023. The Emergency Medical Services Program Director is responsible for overseeing the educational and operational aspects of the EMS Degree Program including the EMT certificate, the Advanced EMT certificate, and the Paramedic Program. This individual will work to ensure that these programs are in compliance with local, state, and national regulations, as well as the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) and the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP), and that it meets the educational needs of students in the program. Responsibilities
- Provide EMS course instruction and clinical supervision.
- Develop and oversee the paramedic program curriculum for EMT, AEMT, and paramedic programs, including course design and materials, and ensure that the program meets all regulatory and CoAEMSP accreditation requirements
- Recruit, train, and supervise program faculty and staff to ensure effective delivery of the program curriculum
- Monitor student progress, provide feedback and support, and facilitate remediation as needed
- Collaborate with other educational institutions, healthcare providers, and industry partners to maintain current knowledge and best practices in the field of emergency medical services
- Collaborate with other UT programs, faculty, and staff to implement interprofessional experiences among programs and students
- Monitor and manage the program budget, including expenses for staffing, equipment, and supplies
- Establish and maintain relationships with regulatory agencies, accrediting bodies, and other stakeholders to ensure compliance with all regulations and standards, including those related to CoAEMSP accreditation
- Prepare for and participate in CoAEMSP accreditation site visits and assessments, and implement changes as needed to maintain accreditation status
- Ensure that program evaluations and assessments are completed on a regular basis, and implement changes as needed
- Oversee the maintenance of accurate student records and ensure that they are kept confidential
- Participate in community outreach and marketing efforts to promote the program and increase enrollment
- Develop and maintain relationships with employers and other stakeholders to ensure that the program meets the needs of the local job market
- Perform defined campus-wide duties, including holding office hours, attendance at department and division meetings, and adherence to college, division, and university policies and procedures
- Master’s degree in paramedicine, education, or related field required
- Current certification as a paramedic in the state of Utah
- Current certification as a paramedic with the National Registry of EMT
- Utah EMS Instructor Endorsement
- Utah Course Coordinator Endorsement
- Affiliate faculty for the National Association of EMTs (NAEMT)
- ACLS Instructor Certification
- PEPP Course Coordinator/Instructor
- PHTLS Course Coordinator/Instructor
- PALS Instructor Certification
- Minimum of five years of experience in paramedicine, including teaching experience
- Experience in program development and management, and CoAEMSP accreditation
- Knowledge of state and national regulations governing paramedic education, as well as CoAEMSP accreditation standards and requirements
- Strong leadership and management skills, including the proven ability to lead a team of faculty and staff
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with students, faculty, staff, and external stakeholders
- Strong organizational and analytical skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, and to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Full-time (9-month) tenure-track faculty position. Desired start date of July 16, 2023 . Annual salary of $66,000+ depending on qualifications & experience, with additional compensation available for optional summer/overload teaching.
