Position Description
The School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Texas State University invites applications for an assistant professor of practice in Public Relations to begin fall 2023. This position will be a non-tenure-line, nine-month faculty position having a contract term not to exceed five years, subject to annual reappointment review, and renewable upon expiration of the initial term. The successful applicant will be an exceptional educator and professional who can contribute significantly to the public relations program. The individual will be expected to teach in our academic programs and provide professional service to the school, university, and the field. The teaching load is normally 7 courses per year but may be adjusted. This position will teach at both our Round Rock and San Marcos campuses. All positions are subject to availability of funds.
Required Qualifications
- Earned M.S., M.A., M.B.A., M.F.A. or M.P.S. degree in journalism, mass communication, public relations, marketing, or related field from an accredited university is required at the time of application.
- More than 5 years of documented years of professional experience as an accomplished PR/communications professional
- Relevant experience presenting at professional conferences and workshops.
- Leadership positions in relevant professional associations, recognition by peers or awards for contributions to the profession and/or industry.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior teaching experience at the university level.
- Prior experience in student recruitment, career development or alumni relations.
- Teaching interests, qualifications, and/or experience related to one or more of the following areas: marketing, public relations research, strategic communications campaigns, health communication, technology and/or data analytics.
- Accredited in Public Relations or in process
