Job Summary

The Certified Assistant Athletic Trainer is a full-time, 10-month, exempt position that provides preventative care, rehabilitation and athletic trainer services for competitions and practices for intercollegiate sports. This position provides preventative care, rehabilitation and athletic training services for all competitions and practices for intercollegiate sports; administer/organize athletic training services for student-athletes; and participate collaboratively and professionally with other faculty and staff to promote the general well-being of the department and University, and collective and individual interest of its staff and student body.

Essential Functions
  • Assists the Head Trainer with all organizational duties to operate an effective athletic training program.
  • Assists in the development, supervision, and management of the budget for all athletic medical supplies and equipment.
  • Helps with the selection, training, and supervision of student helpers that assist in the training room.
  • Evaluates and provides appropriate care and treatment to male and female athletes for injuries they have sustained.
  • Develops and supervises rehabilitation programs for injured athletes.
  • Refers diagnosis of conditions to the team physician for injuries which athletes sustain.
  • Provides athletic training coverage during intercollegiate home contests and make arrangements for coverage to be provided by host schools when not traveling with teams.
  • Creates a contest and practice schedule and coordinate for coverage to be provided at each event.
  • Supervises and covers all pre-season and regular season activities of the Elmhurst University athletic teams.
  • Carries out all assigned duties as delegated by the Head Athletic Trainer.
  • Provides arrangements for the conduct of athletic physicals to be administered prior to the start of all sport programs.
  • Interacts with all other University constituencies.
  • Endorses and supports other sports within the Athletic Department and other duties as outlined by the Director of Athletics.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of NCAA, CCIW, and institutional policies and regulations.
  • Maintains positive public relations with the community through an assortment of volunteer camps, clinics, and speaking engagements.
  • Endorses and supports other areas within the Student Affairs Staff including attendance at all meetings and service on committees.
  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Supports University’s mission, vision and values.
Other Duties and Responsibilities

Performs other duties as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer and/or the Director of Athletics.

SPECIAL NOTATION :
Staff members must possess a commitment and responsibility for adhering to all rules and regulations of Elmhurst University, the CCIW and the NCAA . Staff members must cooperate with and furnish the NCAA, the CCIW and/or Elmhurst University with truthful and complete information concerning involvement in or knowledge of rules violations. Any person who is found in violation of NCAA regulations shall be subject to disciplinary or correction actions a set forth in the provisions of the NCAA enforcement procedures, including suspension without pay or termination of employment for significant or repeated violations.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • NATABOC certified in good standing.
  • Licensed to work in state of Illinois.
  • CPR /First Aid, AED certified in good standing.
  • A valid driver’s license that is in good standing.

Preferred Qualifications

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

Employee is subject to both indoor and outdoor environmental conditions (temperatures varying from below 32 degrees to over 90 degrees) for periods of over one hour, subject to hazards such as proximity to moving parts, electrical current, etc., and involves heavy work exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly in order to move objects. Must be able to climb stairs and ladders and lift 50 pounds. Must be willing to nights and weekends, as required.

Varies, must be willing to work overtime, including weekends, as required.
