Biblical, Religious, and Philosophical Studies Faculty

Messiah University

The Department of Biblical, Religious and Philosophical Studies at Messiah University invites applications for a Term-Tenure Track position in Christian Ministries.

Responsibilities: Teach a wide range of courses in the areas of Christian Ministry, Theology, and Community Engagement. Specific courses may include: Theology of Ministry, Creative Communication of the Gospel, Evangelism & Discipleship, Pastoral Counseling, Field Experience, Christian Spirituality, and Basic Conflict Mediation, as well as general education theology courses. In addition, provide ongoing mentoring, guidance, and vocational support to our Christian Ministries majors.

Qualifications: Terminal degree in Christian Ministries or related field is required, as well as recent experience in congregational ministry and leadership. Demonstration of Christian faith commitment required. Ideal applicant will be a teacher-scholar, committed to undergraduate liberal arts education, collegiality, and community engagement. Interest in and ability to deepen connections between the department and the program in Peace and Conflict Studies is highly desirable. Undergraduate teaching experience preferred. Commitment to community outreach, non-profit collaboration, conflict mediation, and intercultural experience preferred.

The Program: The department of Biblical, Religious & Philosophical Studies offers four academic majors: Biblical and Religious Studies, Christian Ministries & Leadership, Philosophy, and Youth Ministries. Additionally, the department provides general education courses for all undergraduate students.

The Department: The department of Biblical, Religious & Philosophical Studies is a community of students and Christian scholars who specialize in biblical studies, Christian ministry, philosophy, religious history, theology, and world religions.

The goal of the BRPS department is to model and encourage informed thinking about Christian faith and practice and the role of religion in the world. We foster spiritual, philosophical, and theological reflection that enables individuals to develop and deepen Christian commitment, interpret matters of faith intelligently and minister to others with wisdom and compassion. Our students explore life's most fundamental questions as they learn to think clearly, analytically, and creatively about controversial ideas while developing and articulating their own distinctly Christian worldview.

The University: Messiah University is a Christian university of the liberal and applied arts and sciences and has a student body of nearly 2,500 undergraduate students including 18.5% under-represented and 2.6% international students from 22 countries and over 700 graduate students including 18.8% of students from under-represented populations.

Compensation: Salary and rank commensurate with qualifications and experience.
