Context of Job:
The Facilities & Auxiliary Financial and Administration Department is responsible for the overall financial management and reporting for the University’s Facilities and Auxiliary Services department/units.
Under the general direction of the of Beverage Operations Manager, the Assistant Beverage Operations Manager will responsible for the oversight of the regulations as they pertain to the DABCC (Delaware Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission) including maintaining extensive knowledge of the state of Delaware alcohol laws and regulations. In addition, the role will handle maintaining standards at any event where alcohol will be served as well as maintaining and completing all pre-event and post-event paperwork.
Responsibilities:
- Must maintain an extensive knowledge of Delaware alcohol laws and regulations
- Assist Beverage Operations Manager in serving as the University liaison to the Delaware Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission for day-to-day implementation of all related DABCC rules applicable to the purchase, storage and service of alcoholic beverages in accordance with federal and state laws, as well as Board of Health and University of Delaware requirements.
- Assist in the processing of applications for renewal of biennials premises unlimited gathering license and preparing applications for one day gathering license.
- Maintain consistent service standards for all events with alcohol
- Responsible for timely and accurate competition of pre-event and post-event paperwork
- Enforce all safety regulations in accordance with Aramark, University of Delaware, and Board of Health
- Enforce proper alcohol service practices in compliance with Delaware state law, University of Delaware policy, and Aramark policies
- Ensures sanitation and organizational standards in all beverage operation units, including the president’s home, are maintained at or above UD Dining standards of operation
- Responsible for twice annual monitoring of equipment inventory across campus
- Assist in the weekly conducting and maintenance of all alcohol inventory campus wide
- Assist Beverage Operations Manager in wine selections for VIP and Presidential Events by working closely with culinary team
- Must successfully complete Catertrax training to maintain high level of knowledge of program and to be able to identify event order issues
- Assist with placing orders for indirect and direct costs in service of beverage ops events
- Assist with hiring and training of new staff, including providing mixology training
- Provide management assistance on all events required or scheduled including support of residential and retail operations as needed
- Ability to maintain a flexible schedule including some holidays, evenings, and weekends
- Respond quickly to any & all requests from clients
- Responsible for timely review and approval of weekly payroll records.
- Assist in ensuring operating structure aligns with financial monthly and yearly budget.
- Responsible for coordination and scheduling of a minimum of once yearly TIPs certification training class
- May be required to interact with external agencies, vendors, clients and internal departments with regard to service arrangements, policies and customer satisfaction.
- All other duties as assigned by Beverage Operations Manager as well as Catering Director and General Manager of Pencader Complex, including managing catering events without alcohol, retail locations, and dining halls
Qualifications:
- Requires at least 2 years of experience and prior experience in a management role and a Bachelor's degree preferred, or equivalent management experience
- Must be able to lift, push or pull up to 80lbs (half the weight of full ½ barrel keg)
- High profile event experience is required
- Fine dining experience preferred
- Creative, energetic, outgoing personality with organization skills and attention to detail
- Must have practical knowledge of food preparation and social customs of etiquette, especially regarding private events
- Maintain active knowledge of industry trends.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Responds quickly to any & all requests from clients
- Maintain current ServSafe and TIP’s certification, including TIP’s trainer certification
- Prior experience with managing many employees at once required
- Prior experience with Multi-Purpose Sports Complex and Concessions work preferred
- Must have practical knowledge of financial analysis as it relates to operations
