ATTENTION:

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Department of Theatre/Dance in the College of Arts and Communication invites applications for a non-tenure track Visiting Assistant Professor in Theatre/Dance to teach courses and design lighting and/or scenery in the Theatre/Dance program.

This Academic Staff position is a fixed-term part-time appointment. This is a one academic-year appointment beginning in August 2023.

JOB DETAILS:

This position is three-quarters time (75%). In the Fall semester this position is expected to teach World of the Arts and team-teach Introduction to Theatrical Design, as well as design lighting for Much Ado About Nothing. In the Spring semester this position will teach either World of the Arts or Script Analysis, team-teach Advanced Design Seminar, design either scenery or lighting for Pal Joey, and design/supervise lighting for DanceScapes '24. Course syllabi can be provided by the department. This position may be asked to mentor student designers on other productions.

This is a part-time assignment, configurable based upon candidate qualifications.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

· - MFA in theatrical design and/or technology (scenery and/or lighting design preferred)

· - Record of teaching, preference for theatrical design and general theatre courses

· - Record of scenic and/or lighting design experience, professional and/or academic

Desired Characteristics:

· - Ability to teach general education lecture courses

· - Ability to be on-site for production meetings, shop activities, technical rehearsals

· - Ability to work with students in production environments

· - Willingness to serve as mentor to student designer

DEPARTMENT INFORMATION:

The UWW Theatre/Dance Department has a staff of nine faculty/academic staff members, offering BA and BSE degrees, a dance minor, and BFA emphases in design/tech, stage management, and performances. Five live productions are mounted each year, including a musical/opera production in collaboration with the Department of Music and our annual Dancescapes dance concert. The department shares the Greenhill Center for the Arts with the departments of Music and Art & Design.

The department houses two performance spaces: the proscenium Barnett Theatre, and the black box Hicklin Theatre. The department also houses a dedicated dance studio and fully equipped scenic construction and costume construction shops within the Greenhill Center of the Arts.

Our production rotation plan allows students exposure to and practice in a wide variety of genres and production styles, both in performance and design. We are highly collaborative, practically oriented department, with an emphasis on preparing our students for a variety of careers throughout the entertainment industry.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Well-qualified candidates can expect a starting annual salary of $39,000.
