ABOUT THE POSITION:
The Nurse Practitioner is a medical provider in the Student Health Center within the Division of Student Life, in service to all three Lewis & Clark campuses - College of Arts and Sciences, Graduate School of Education & Counseling, and the Law School.
The Nurse Practitioner will work autonomously and in collaboration with healthcare professionals and other individuals to assess, diagnose, treat and manage the patient's health problems/needs. In addition to diagnosing and managing acute episodic and chronic illnesses/injuries, the nurse practitioner will emphasize health promotion and disease prevention.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
General Nursing Services (70%)
- Conduct in person and telehealth visits.
- Provide independent and appropriate clinical assessment,
diagnosis and treatment of both physical and mental health
concerns.
- Order diagnostic laboratory tests and/or imaging studies and
interpret the results of these tests.
- Work collaboratively with other Health Service clinic staff to
provide quality, comprehensive,
- confidential care.
- Provide consultation regarding health-related concerns and make
referrals to specialists as needed.
- Developing partnerships with both campus partners as well as
community organizations to increase students' access to appropriate
services.
- Participate regularly in Health Service staff meetings and
joint meetings with other colleagues in the Division of Student
Life concerned about the health, well-being, safety, and success of
our students .
- Stay current with advances in medicine through appropriate
continuing education as required for a Nurse Practitioner's license
by the Oregon of State Board of Nursing and national certifying
body.
- Provide educational materials and presentations for students,
faculty, and staff as needed.
- Participate in health information sessions with students as
needed.
- As delegated by leadership, represent the Student Health Center
where medical expertise may be needed.
- Available for public health consultation to the wider campus
community as needed.
- Attend Student Life related staff meetings as assigned and as
needed.
Education and Experience
- 2 years of Medical Clinic experience in the role of Nurse
Practitioner in a primary care or urgent care clinic setting.
- Master's degree in nursing required.
- Current Nurse Practitioner and Registered Nurse license from
the State of Oregon.
- Current national certification as a Family or Adult Nurse
Practitioner.
- Current Drug Enforcement (DEA) license.
- American Red Cross or American Heart Association certification
for CPR and Standard First Aid
- Competence with and commitment to diversity, equity, and
inclusion; ability to be an effective partner with diverse
students, faculty, and staff.
- Knowledge and ability to take a medical history, perform
physical examinations, identify a diagnosis, and develop a holistic
treatment plan.
- Knowledge of laboratory tests and ability to order and
interpret appropriate laboratory testing.
- Collection of specimens for laboratory testing--i.e.
throat/wound culture, urine, stool, and gynecological
specimens.
- Wound and injury assessment and management.
- Ability to communicate effectively and compassionately with
patients and staff.
- Knowledge of current vaccination recommendations in accordance
with Multnomah County, the State of Oregon and Center for Disease
Control recommendations.
- Prescription privileges for medications, treatment, laboratory
testing, radiology, and therapies (physical, occupational,
speech).
- Proficient with EHR system utilization.
- Crisis management skills, infection control and community
emergency resources.
- Able to effectively receive and implement supervisory
direction. Effective ability to work independently, as well as
within an interdisciplinary team setting.
- Ability to organize and follow through with complex tasks to
meet deadlines.
- Experience as a medical provider in a higher education
setting.
- Current Dispensing license from the State of Oregon.
- Knowledge of quality assurance review including systematic
review of medical records.
- Ability to perform in office procedures and operate varied
equipment for those purposes.
- This is a 9-month, full-time position (1.0 FTE)
- 37.5 hours per week
