Job Description Summary
Reporting to the Associate Director, Health Education, the Health Educator will develop, implement, and maintain a variety of population-specific, theory- based health promotion and education initiatives. The Health Educator will collaborate with key stakeholders across campus to develop opportunities in support of our mission to infuse wellness throughout the Penn experience through inclusive, innovative, and impactful initiatives. This will be accomplished through planning, coordinating, implementing, and assessing students' physical and emotional health, academic success, and personal growth. Penn's eight domains of wellness include: Physical, emotional, social, spiritual, intellectual, occupation, environmental, and financial wellness. The Health Educator will embrace our core values of compassion, accessibility, respect and empowerment (CARE) throughout their work.

Job Description

Job Responsibilities
  • In collaboration with the Associate Director, support all Wellness activities related to health promotion, needs assessment, outreach, prevention and intervention efforts, and educational program development, implementation, and evaluation. This includes:

    - Facilitation of existing Wellbeing programs to student groups, leaders and individuals.
    - Meeting with stakeholders across campus to develop opportunities to integrate health and wellness programming for specific student populations.
    - Attention to detail and logistics management.
    - Contribution to annual progress reports for existing programs, and more frequent progress reports for new programs.
    - Support for health communication efforts (e.g. print, social media, website content).
    - Survey development, focus group design and facilitation, data analysis etc.
  • Engage and collaborate with students to ensure that Wellness at Penn continues to provide evidence-based, data-driven, and relevant health programming and information in meaningful ways to its audiences.
  • In collaboration with the Associate Director, plan, coordinate and implement outreach activities for New Student Orientation on behalf of Public Health and Wellbeing.
  • Ensure clean data collection and assist in monthly metrics reports and annual program evaluations
  • Support the Student Health and Counseling clinical practice, including but not limited to, health literacy, insurance and healthcare utilization, promotion of behaviors that reduce and/or prevent sick visits.
  • Present at local and national conferences on the promotion of health for students.
  • Identify grant opportunities and funding sources for health and wellness initiatives. Write applications and apply for identified grants and funding sources at the local, state and national level. Support research activities.


Qualifications
  • BA/BS and 2 to 3 years of health education experience, job-related experience in higher education, or equivalent combination of education and experience, are required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with highly diverse audiences, including students, faculty members, staff, and university administrators, preferably in higher education settings.
  • Exhibit appropriate sensitivity to others, and interface effectively and inclusively with students.
  • Demonstrated strong people skills, organizational skills, and ability to work on a team; a general understanding of higher education policies and practices preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills required.
  • Experience in data analysis and/or program evaluation preferred.
  • Public health experience or demonstrated knowledge of theoretical models of behavior change and health promotion preferred.
  • Alternative work schedule may be required, including evenings and/or weekends.

Salary offers are made based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, as well as internal and market factors and grade profile.
