Responsibilities:
The Division of Mathematics and Science invites applicants for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Organic Chemistry in an ACS approved program for the Fall of 2023. The successful candidate will have a PhD in chemistry focusing on organic chemistry or a related field. The applicant will need strong communication skills and a commitment to both teaching and research in a liberal arts environment. Responsibilities include teaching courses and laboratories in general, organic, and polymer chemistry for undergraduate majors and non-majors as well as the potential for future graduate courses. Additional responsibilities include mentoring Delta State's ACS Student Affiliate chapter. Demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching and undergraduate research is preferred.

Other essential duties include pursuit of external grants, hold a minimum of 10 office hours per week, and perform service activities for the division, university, and community.

Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have a PhD in chemistry focusing on organic chemistry or related field. The applicant will need strong communication skills and a commitment to both teaching and research in a liberal arts environment. Demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching and undergraduate research is preferred.

  • Post-doctoral research is desired.
  • Willingness to carry out research activities and pursue external funding.
  • Post-secondary level teaching experience (documented by at least one letter of reference) is preferred.
  • Ability to teach courses and laboratories in general, organic, and polymer chemistry for undergraduate major
  • Commitment to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level.
  • Commitment to working with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Commitment to effective academic advisement.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.


Salary:
9 monthCommensurate with experience, qualifications, and university’s resources.

Minimum Qualifications:
