Purpose of Position

The US Department of Education Augustus F. Hawkins-funded project at UTEP aims to recruit, prepare, and retain high-quality teachers to serve predominantly Hispanic/Latinx PK-12 students in high-needs school districts through a research-based, competency-aligned curriculum combined with a robust, paid year-long clinical teaching experience, known as the Miner Teacher Residency. One key goal of the Center of Excellence in Hispanic Teacher Preparation at UTEP is to serve as a model of collective impact on the Hispanic teacher pipeline. Seeking a Research Associate/Assistant Professor of Research to collect, analyze, and visualize impact data related to the teacher preparation program.

Essential Functions

Seeking a Research Associate/Assistant Professor of Research for this grant-funded position for up to three (3) years to assist in several key areas of work on the project, including:

Conducting program evaluation for the college's teacher recruitment, preparation, and induction efforts.

Managing programmatic and project data across various digital platforms.

Compiling and visualizing teacher pipeline data for various stakeholder audiences.

Reporting data and findings to funding agencies.

Collaborating on the development of peer-reviewed publications and presentations.

Responding to data needs/request from related departmental/programmatic efforts.

Assisting with any additional project-related tasks on an as-needed basis.

Conducts, monitors, and analyzes research projects and data.

Uses statistical methods for the relational databases to analyze data sets.

Prepares reports of research findings. Conducts data-gathering interviews/tests.

Authors or edits technical reports and summaries of findings.

Assists with planning, developing, coordinating, and administering research projects.

Assists with formulating research objectives, programs, and priorities.

May assist in designing and creating computer programs for research applications.

May train users on the operation and data management of research equipment.

Knowledge of all Microsoft Office software and able to learn and use institutional software systems.

Complies with all State and University policies.

Other duties may be assigned.

Required Qualifications

To qualify for this position, individuals should have:

Master's degree or higher in related field of study

Proven experience and expertise in advanced quantitative research methods, specifically in data analysis and visualization using various platforms/software

Strong oral, written, and multimodal communication skills

Strong teamwork, interpersonal, and collaboration skills

Capacity to mentor graduate students in research methods
