Job Description

This position is key to the continued high achievement of the teams and most importantly to excellence in recruiting and retention at S&T by building community among team leaders. The person in this position has primary responsibility for tours at the Design Center resulting in "closing the deal" for new student acquisition. It is exceptionally important that this person be tuned to the development process, establishing relationships with key stake holders among alumni and corporations to sustain the Design Centers record of success.

Key Responsibilities
  • Tours and Outreach-Oversees and serves as the point of contact for tour requests. Works collaboratively with Admissions, The Kummer Institute, Alumni and Athletics to successfully schedule tours. This includes providing and coordinating tours for potential students, parents, alumni, and donors. Maintains SDELC calendar to capture details of the tours through the tour spreadsheet and report. Directs staffing for tours as needed by utilizing the Design Center’s staff and student workers.
  • Competitions- Travels with and is responsible for Design Team Students at regional, national, and international competitions; and accompanies teams to off-campus events as needed. Partners with students to find optimum solutions to a variety of challenges and perceived crisis throughout the “design, prototype, test and repeat process.”
  • Serves as EWB’s main advisor, including international travel with teams.
  • Collaborates with teams, students, staff and faculty, to enhance and effectively deliver the mission of the Design Center. Develops, maintains, and updates all Design Center social media outlets, brochures and all printed promotional publications. Provides coaching to students through the process of writing, editing, printing, and publishing promotional material. Supervises and coordinates outreach events both internally and externally as assigned. Actively promotes student diversity, equity, and inclusion while positively engaging in student team dynamics.
  • Procures needed material for design team projects or serves as an advisor and coach to students in the procurement process to maximize their experience and skill set development. Guides students in identifying appropriate vendors to procure team supplies, components and equipment; and supports efforts to seek funding, resources, and gift in kind through corporate, state, federal and private sources to support department efforts.
  • Serves as the primary department resource for software development, maintenance, and all IT related issues. This includes updating and procuring software for design team projects and tracking and maintaining licensures status on a variety of software packages used by students in the Design Center. Coach students in developing, executing, and maintaining current web content.
  • Builds, expands, and establishes strong relationships within the Design Center community and S&T at large.
Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 6 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field
  • Experience with a high degree of public interaction and organization
  • Within the required experience, at least 2 years of project management and /or leading a student design team at an accredited university
