Food Service Coordinator

Position Summary:
Reporting to Director of the Children's Center, the Food Service Coordinator will manage food program for 125 children and staff. Requires management of the kitchen, food preparation, compliance of USDA Food Program, menu planning, budgeting, ordering, and records maintenance. They will maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards, and be certified in Food Safety and Sanitation. They will supervision work study students and interns from the FCS Dept. in Nutrition and food preparation.
The UI Children's Center is a department reporting directly to Student Affairs. The center is located on the Moscow campus and offers a child-centered program for children ages six weeks to six years old and serves student, faculty, staff and community families. The Children's Center is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) the leading association for those working with and on behalf of children from birth through age eight.https://www.uidaho.edu/student-affairs/childrens-center
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Experience applying methods and materials used to prepare foods for large-scale production; use and care of cooking utensils and equipment; sanitation and safety practices used in food handling and preparation.
- Experience performing large-scale quantity cooking; following recipes and menus; calculating volume measurements used in cooking.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with the USDA Child Care Food Program.
- Experience working with young children in a group setting.
- Knowledge of eating habits and food preferences of young children.
- Knowledge of food values and basic nutrition in the preparation of special diets.
- Knowledge of supervisory practices.
- Knowledge of following and converting recipes into varying quantities.
- Ability to communicate effectively with vendors, Director and staff.
- Ability to manage a budget.
- Ability to purchase and inventory large quantities of food.
- Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
- Physical ability to repeat hand and arm movements for four hours at a time.
- Lift, carry and/or otherwise move items weighing approximately 50 pounds.
- Bend, stoop, and work on wet, slippery surfaces.
- Work around extreme heat and steam in the cooking area.
