Coordination and Outreach Specialist

The Center for Advanced Study of Teaching and Learning (CASTL) in the School of Education and Human Development at the University of Virginia seeks a full-time Coordination and Outreach Specialist for the Virginia Kindergarten Readiness Program (VKRP). VKRP is a partnership between the University of Virginia, the Virginia Department of Education, and school divisions across the Commonwealth. VKRP partners with the Virginia Literacy Partnerships (VLP) to provide a comprehensive picture of students’ skills in the early grades. VKRP uses a web-based assessment and reporting system, which provides critical data about young students’ school skills in the areas of literacy, mathematics, social skills, and self-regulation. 

Role and Responsibilities:

The Coordination and Outreach Specialist will provide support related to coordinating a pilot of VKRP assessments with students in grades 1-3. The Coordination and Outreach specialist will also provide hotline support via email, phone, and a chat feature within the VKRP web portal for teachers using the VKRP application. More specifically, the incumbent will work with senior team members to provide support in the following three areas: VKRP pilot coordination, user training and support, and technical assistance.


Minimum Requirements
Education: Bachelor's degree required. Additional experience will be required in lieu of a degree.
Experience: Two years of experience required with a Bachelor's degree. Six years of experience required with a high school degree or equivalent.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Demonstrates expertise, experience, and commitment to diversity, equity, and access
  • Data collection (assessments or observations) in elementary or early childhood classrooms
  • Knowledge of Virginia’s Early Childhood Education programming (e.g., VPI, ECSE, Title 1, Head Start, Mixed Delivery grants)
  • Experience as a technology support specialist or customer support in an educational organization
  • Experience developing professional development or other resources for teachers and/or families
  • Experience with coaching, consulting, technical assistance, and/or training adult educators and leaders in individual and group settings
  • An understanding of customer support and creating efficient trouble-shooting processes and procedures
  • Familiarity with hotline support platforms (e.g., Zendesk)
  • Proficiency in use of technology: videoconferencing, teaching, or webinar tools (e.g., Zoom, Canvas, Teams) and virtual platforms or storage (e.g., Google Docs, Box, Trello, OneDrive)

This is an in-person role in Charlottesville, VA with the option for hybrid schedule. Consequently, candidates should be based in the Charlottesville area or be willing to relocate to the area.
