Position Overview:

The Social Media and Content Specialist is responsible for developing and executing social media strategies and content creation for the University of Central Oklahoma. This position will work closely with the University Communications team to create and manage dynamic social media content for a variety of platforms, including, but not limited to: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and YouTube. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of social media best practices, as well as the ability to create engaging and informative content that resonates with the university's target audiences.

This position is on-campus, with opportunities for flexible scheduling and some remote work. Candidate must reside in close proximity to Edmond, OK.

Department Specific Essential Job Functions:

Duties include:
  • Create and maintain monthly and weekly social media plans/calendars for all social platforms.
  • Lead efforts to gather and create written and visual content for all social media platforms.
  • Implement planned social media posts and respond in a timely fashion to comments and messages on the university’s main social media accounts.
  • Use the university’s social media management tool for management and engagement, as well as search and monitor individual social media channels for engagement with relevant content, keywords, locations and hashtags.
  • Monitors UCO’s online presence for inappropriate or questionable content and escalate issues when appropriate to University Communications leadership.
  • Create engagement reports to monitor success on digital platforms.
  • Build strong relationships with members of the campus community and engage in campus events and activities.
  • Works with University Communications staff to develop strategic communications and marketing plans, including organic and paid strategies.
  • Manage university online master calendar content and assisting others with their calendar entries.
  • Assist in coordinating interviews with faculty, staff, students, alumni and other necessary parties.
  • Assists with management of UCO’s student influencer group, Broncho Bunch.
  • Work with campus photographers and videographers to plan and coordinate photo and video shoots for digital platforms.
  • Assists in implementing communications projects and programs to generate media interest, student recruitment and public recognition for the institution.
  • Serves as a resource for campus colleges and departments regarding social strategy and content development.
  • Coordinates with University Communications team to filter content for use in other projects, platforms and communications.
  • Assists with monitoring the University Communications department email.
  • Stay atop new trends, issues and audience preferences regarding digital content and platforms as well as being aware of current events and content from other institutions, higher education, local and national news.
  • Serves as a backup editor for UCO website, email blasts and Centralities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Reports to Assistant Vice President for University Communications

Qualifications/Experience Required:

Requires associate degree or vocational training in communications, public relations, marketing or related field, 1-3 years of relevant work experience (including internships/student employment) or equivalent combination of education and experience. Qualifications/Experience Preferred :

Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, marketing or related area. Familiarity with university environment. Working knowledge of AP Style.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Knowledge and experience with social media management. Basic video editing, photography and graphic design skills. Strong grammar and composition skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Strong organizational skills including attention to detail and multi-tasking skills. Motivated, positive, self-starting attitude with strong work ethic.
