PLEASE NOTE: The starting salary placement depends on qualifications and experience and is anticipated to be in the range of $6,000.00 per month to $7,600.00 per month.

About the Position

Reporting to the Chief Communications and Marketing Officer (CCMO), the Marketing Communications Lead has a strategic role in developing and implementing communication and marketing plans to support long-term objectives and increase the visibility of Cal State East Bay. In addition, this individual develops internal and external strategies to promote the image of the University and/or programs by using market research data to determine the most effective techniques, approaches, and channels for reaching target audiences; identifies the needs and interests of various constituent groups; translates the results of research into strategic communication efforts including selecting the best medium to achieve goals; supports enrollment efforts; and creates marketing programs to better position the University to achieve its goals.

The position is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with relevant internal and external constituents to ensure consistent, relevant, and positive information about the University is used in digital and traditional platforms. In addition, the Marketing and Communications Lead is responsible for creating an annual strategic plan for 3-5 identified programs/units across the institution, crafting the content needed for the identified plan, and streamlining an impact reporting process on their work. The Marketing and Communications Lead also works closely with various University Communications and Marketing team members (social media specialist, senior graphic designer, photographer & videographer, and digital communications specialist) to ensure the annual strategies created are dynamic and audience-centric.

The Marketing and Communications Lead is also a storyteller, creating original content that is shared internally and externally across various audiences. Utilizing automated project management software like Asana, the Lead ensures that the annual strategy is documented, detailed, reviewed, and delivered on time. Keeping in mind the department is responsible for increasing brand awareness, brand growth, and brand positioning, the Lead will work with the CCMO to develop and report on their work in relation to the three pillar goals. The Lead will also utilize notable organic marketing key performance indicators such as but not limited to, unique opening rate, read rate, share rate, and click rate to determine the impact of their work. The Lead is also responsible for identifying and measuring any paid media key performance indicators, including partnering with the department’s digital communications specialist, who is responsible for the website and paid structures.

Responsibilities

Drive Marketing and Communications Campaigns and Strategies:
  • Develop and implement an omni-channel annual strategy for 3-5 identified units/programs. Utilizing a data-centric approach, plan, create and implement strategies to promote the University and its programs through specific digital, print, and outdoor marketing channels.
  • In conjunction with the CCMO, assist in managing editorial student-employees.
  • Utilize project management software to streamline projects and include University marketing and communications colleagues as needed.
  • In conjunction with the CCMO, social media specialist, and digital communications specialist, develop key performance indicators measuring impact and growth for organic and paid structures.
  • Ensure that all communication content created is within brand standards and guidelines, including but not limited to APA style guidelines.
  • Responsible for any digital communications sends, which includes garnering the appropriate send lists and utilizing email platforms such as Salesforce Marketing Cloud.
Support Strategic Communications Strategies:
  • Write short and long form original copy for publications such as Cal State East Bay Magazine, both as self-directed editorial content and as assigned by another project leader.
  • Write original copy for websites, social media use, and video scripts, as needed for projects or on assignment.
  • Provide editorial style and proofreading review for others’ writing for the same and similar projects.
Support Social Media Strategies and Implementation:
  • Provide backup support for social media posting.
  • In conjunction with the CCMO and social media specialist, develop social media content, scheduling, growth and implementation strategies to enhance the university’s messaging and brand, provide relevant and timely information, and guide social media outreach to enhance paid and organic messaging campaigns.
Other communications, advancement and university duties, committee representation and projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent that includes relevant coursework in the field.
  • Minimum of two years of related professional or technical experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with a solid foundation in grammar, spelling, and the composition of various communication pieces.
Required Qualifications
  • Comprehensive and in-depth knowledge of communication and marketing theories and concepts in order to develop and execute communication strategies and marketing plans to promote and position the University.
  • Expert knowledge of University communication objectives and ability to translate them into effective communication and marketing campaigns.
  • Ability to understand issues from a broad, strategic perspective.
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable copyright and other laws pertaining to publications and the news media.
  • Ability to effectively manage digital marketing campaigns and apply effective marketing strategies and techniques.
  • Ability to collaborate with campus partners/units to create and execute omni-channel marketing campaigns.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to create metrics and track results of marketing campaigns.
  • Demonstrated ability to market story concepts to University officials.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of marketing and research techniques and methods.
  • Ability to use market research to enhance the impact of communication strategies and campaigns.
  • Working knowledge of appropriate use of statistical techniques.
  • Expert writing and editorial skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and experience with project management.
Condition(s) of Employment
