Job Description

The College of Arts & Sciences seeks an enthusiastic, detail-oriented Business Support Specialist II to provide essential business support for the Lucas Clark work center, comprised of History, English, Media & Communications, Sociology, Languages and Philosophy. Requires strong interpersonal skills and a helpful, positive outlook on assisting faculty, staff, students and outside constituents.

Performs a variety of independent, specialized business support duties for the assigned department(s) or Center under guidance of the Senior Business Specialist:
  • Assist the Department Chairs, Senior Business Specialist and Business Manager in business or fiscal administration for the departments
  • Provide support in the processing, documentation and monitoring of unit budgets, funding, grants, contracts, payroll, employment, travel, billing and/or purchasing
  • May independently or under the guidance of campus finance professionals establish internal accounts and recordkeeping systems, and establish needed accounting support via campus-wide information systems
  • Oversee and/or perform a range of diverse administrative activities for the department; serve as a central liaison with other departments in the resolution of a variety of day-to-day matters concerning the units
  • Perform varied, advanced administrative work unique to the departments requiring initiative and independent judgment
  • May provide oversight of tasks and/or support to departmental chairs (e.g., typing, calendar management, office reception, event planning and writing original correspondence)
  • Coordinate the documentation and processing of routine payroll actions, in accordance with University policy
  • Review actions for budget impact, authorization and compliance with campus policy
  • Bring variances to unit management's attention for authorization or modification
  • Ensure proper coding of payroll and finance functions for campus information systems and reporting
  • Serve as a source of general information for students, faculty and staff of UMSL and the Department
  • May informally oversee and offer help to other support staff as well as student employees
  • Other duties as assigned

40 hrs/weekly including some remote work & flex time opportunities

Salary

Pay commensurate with education and experience.
Anticipated Hiring Range: $17.50 – 19.55
Grade: GGS-007

Minimum Qualifications

An Associate’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.) and PeopleSoft FIN and HRPRD applications (or comparable industry application)
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Strong collaborative, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills
  • Goal oriented and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Exceptional attention to detail and demonstrated problem solving skill
