Summary/Objective:

The Clinical Education Coordinator supervises all aspects of clinical education (pre-internship and internship) in the Education Department. This individual works extensively with school districts, faculty, staff, and students to facilitate ideal high-quality field experiences for Education majors and/or minors. The Coordinator is expected to supervise and monitor interns, complete orientation training sessions for students, school district mentor teachers, and Flagler College supervisors, and ensure compliance with the Florida Department of Education (FLDOE) regulations regarding policies and procedures for placement. This position is also responsible for developing and nurturing partnerships with school districts. In addition, this individual will teach professional development and internship seminars.

Essential Functions:
  • Assign students to practicum sites ensuring that they meet FLDOE requirements.
  • Maintain a spreadsheet of practicum student data (including contact information, and transportation information) to place students in appropriate locations.
  • Maintain an Assigned Practicum Location spreadsheet to track student placements across their major programs.
  • Revise practicum manual and other materials based on practicum course changes/needs and FLDOE requirements.
  • Present practicum orientation to all students at the beginning of each semester.
  • Troubleshoot practicum placements.
  • Communicate all practicum-relevant information to cooperating mentor teachers.
  • Work with school districts to secure intern and practicum placements.
  • Distribute practicum evaluations (electronically) to the cooperating mentor teachers.
  • Collaborate with all practicum course instructors on practicum needs for each course and communicate student placement data to them.
  • Revise internship materials (e.g., handbook, observation forms) on a semester-by-semester basis, as needed.
  • Create and distribute documents (e.g., calendars, evaluation forms) to college supervisors and cooperating mentor teachers.
  • Provide Internship schedule and syllabus to supervisors and interns.
  • Maintain college supervisor yearly demonstration of K-12 teaching records, Clinical Education Certification records, and other necessary training certifications.
  • Conduct the Internship Orientation on a semester-by-semester basis for new interns, mentor teachers and College supervisors.
  • Assist college supervisors with any internship concerns and notify and/or consult with the Department Chair.
  • Develop and facilitate Internship seminars to support intern growth during student teaching.
  • Support completion of the Literacy Teacher Work Sample and co-facilitate instructional seminars with the College Reading professor and LTWS supervisors.
  • Serve as a mentor to interns, supporting their growth as teachers and assisting in entering the job market.
  • Coordinate Level 2 Clearance for preservice teachers and maintain appropriate records
  • Ensure that Flagler College faculty have required Level 2 Clearance and updated information.
  • Teach Professional Development II (EDU 461)
  • Supervise interns (EDU 481) as needed.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Attend meetings and serve on ad hoc committees that relate to job responsibilities.
  • Perform other duties or tasks as indicated by the chair of the Education Department.
  • Perform all responsibilities in accordance with College policies, procedures and Core Values

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's degree
  • K-12 Classroom teaching experience
  • College supervisory experience
  • Strong people skills and ability to interface effectively with district and school administrators, school faculty, College faculty and staff, and students
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and to exhibit good judgment in making decisions consistent with College policy
  • Experience utilizing Microsoft Office, Zoom, and course technology platforms.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Completed updated Clinical Educator Training (Clinical Education Facilitator Academy)
