Position Purpose

The Assistant Curator of Education serves as a liaison from the Hood Museum of Art to schools (Pre-K through high school), integrating the museum’s collection within the school curriculum through educational programs. This includes developing and implementing collections-based teaching strategies and engagement resources for free-choice gallery learning.

Bachelors plus 3-5 years' experience or equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
  • Bachelor’s degree in art history, museum studies or education, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of related experience, especially in teaching and community-based collaborations.
  • Commitment to working within the intersection of museum practice and social justice work.
  • Excellent written and public speaking skills.
  • Ability to make connections between works of art and the ideas they embody and diverse disciplines across the curriculum.
  • Ability to handle several projects simultaneously, meet multiple deadlines, and remain organized.
  • Ability to participate in evening and weekend events.
  • Commitment to diversity and to serving the needs of a diverse community.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in art history, museum studies or education, or a related field.

Description

Education Program Development - Develops and implements accessible education programs and resources for regional school, teen, and adult audiences guided by the museum’s strategic plan for audience engagement. Creates and implements outreach strategies to strengthen and build strategic partnerships with community schools and other organizations, and identify new opportunities for diversifying community engagement; participates in evaluation of exhibitions, programs, and initiatives.
