The Department of Neurology

Job Description

The Department of Neurology has an opening for either a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to serve as clinical support staff for the inpatient intensive care unit. This position is one in a team of 6 Advance Practice Providers who work independently and in collaboration with physicians and other health care professionals in a multi-disciplinary setting to provide care to patients admitted to the Neurological ICU. Responsibilities include:

- Collaborating with physicians and other providers in the development and implementation of treatment plans for ICU patients.

- Communicating with a multi-disciplinary team of providers changes in patients’ conditions and symptomatology and communicating the results of diagnostic studies.

- Responding quickly and accurately to changes of conditions. This includes performing bedside procedures as indicated (central venous catheters, arterial lines, lumbar punctures, intubations, etc.).

- Performing treatments and interventions and providing teaching and counseling of patients and families.

The professional in this role must possess basic computer skills; ability to act quickly and problem solve, willingness and ability to learn new skills and methods; and ability to perform the range of duties in a variety of work settings.

Salary Range:$90,251-$147,285 (yearly)

Expected to work 13-14 shifts a month, flexibility appreciated. Both day and night opportunities available. APP-built schedule.

Minimum Qualifications

Nurse Practitioner - Specialty Care
  • Master of Science in Nursing degree.
  • Missouri Board of Nursing RN or Nurse Licensure Compact multi-state RN. When primary state of residency changes, compact state RNs must apply under new state of residency within thirty (30) days.
  • Must be granted a “Document of Recognition” from the Missouri Board of Nursing.
  • For Emergency Medicine appointments: Two (2) years of experience as a nurse practitioner in an acute care area in an emergency medicine setting.
Physician Assistant Specialty Care
  • Physicians Assistant (PA) licensure by the Missouri State Board of Registration for the Healing Arts.
  • For Emergency Medicine positions: Two (2) years of experience as a physician assistant in an acute care area or completion of post-graduate PA residency/fellowship in an emergency medicine setting.
Preferred Qualifications

Nurse Practitioner - Specialty Care

Possess a specialty certificate by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board (AANPCB), the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN), the Pediatric Certification Nursing Board (PCNB), or the National Certification Corporation (NCC). Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.

Physician Assistant Specialty Care

Specialty certificate by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) in Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery, Emergency Medicine, Hospital Medicine, Nephrology, Orthopaedic Surgery, Pediatrics, or Psychiatry. Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.

** Experience in Neurology / Neurosurgery / Neuro Critical Care / Critical Care is desired. Relevant experience in combination with a master’s degree is preferred.
