The Associate Dean for Collections and Open Initiatives leads the University of Arkansas Libraries’ people and programs supporting creation, evaluation, acquisition, description, digitization, and preservation of content and collections. The Associate Dean engages in Libraries-wide planning and policy development that enhances the mission and vision of the Libraries and the university and supports campus initiatives. Collection development efforts are shared between Collections and Open Initiatives; Research and Learning; and Special Collections divisions. The portfolio of responsibilities includes oversight for collection development, acquisitions, metadata, digital services, scholarly communication, data services, open education services, and preservation.
Primary responsibilities include articulating a strategic focus to achieve the division’s goals and priorities while aligning those to the broader activities of the University Libraries; anticipating, initiating, and responding to changes in academic programs, the University environment, and the national landscape; structuring the circulating, electronic, and digitized collections to meet the information needs of the University; and ensuring that the division maintains a strong commitment to excellent, inclusive, and equitable service. The Associate Dean also facilitates the integration of research and teaching through collaborations with University departments and programs, collaborates with colleagues to advance open initiatives, actively contributes to library-wide planning and efforts, and ensures representation of the University Libraries in relevant local, regional, national, and international organizations.
Reporting to the Dean of Libraries as a member of the University of Arkansas Libraries' senior administrative team, the Associate Dean for Collections and Open Initiatives leads a team of 10 faculty and 24 FTE staff in 6 departments: Acquisitions; Collection Development Strategies; Digital Services; Electronic Resources; Metadata and Preservation Services; and Open Education, Data, and Publishing Services.
Responsibilities of this position include research, creative work, and service in keeping with the faculty requirements of the University of Arkansas.
