The University of Bridgeport is seeking a knowledgeable and passionate adjunct instructor specializing in African American Film and Literature. This position offers an exciting opportunity to inspire and educate students on the rich cultural heritage and artistic contributions of African Americans through the lens of film and literature.

Responsibilities:
  • Design and deliver engaging lectures, seminars, and workshops on African American film and literature to undergraduate students.
  • Develop and update course materials, including syllabi, reading lists, and multimedia resources, to ensure relevance and accuracy.
  • Facilitate meaningful class discussions and encourage critical thinking, analysis, and interpretation of African American films and literary works.
  • Assess student performance through assignments, exams, and projects, and provide constructive feedback to support their academic progress.
  • Foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment that respects diverse perspectives and encourages students to explore various themes and narratives within African American film and literature.
  • Stay updated with current research, trends, and developments in the field and incorporate them into teaching methods and course content.
  • Mentor and advise students on academic and career-related matters, guiding them towards their educational and professional goals.
Qualifications:
  • A minimum of a master's degree in African American Studies, Film Studies, English Literature, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated expertise in African American film and literature, with a deep understanding of the historical, social, and cultural contexts.
  • Strong teaching abilities, with a track record of engaging and inspiring students in the classroom.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively convey complex concepts and facilitate discussions.
  • Commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in education and fostering a welcoming environment for students from all backgrounds.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and contribute to the department's goals and initiatives.
  • Prior experience in curriculum development and course design is desirable.
  • Active participation in research, publication, and academic conferences related to African American film and literature is advantageous.
