Schedule Information: Monday - Friday 8am-4:30pm. Schedule includes remote work opportunities.

Hours per Week: 37.5

Duties of Position: The Counseling Services Manager provides leadership and oversight in the daily operations of the Harper College Counseling Services to include but not limited to scheduling, logistics and coordination of on campus mental health services through assessment and referrals, campus and community resources and partnerships. Responsible for compliance with the Illinois Mental Health Early Action on Campus Act bill.

Leadership
  • Serves as a divisional expert who stays abreast of emerging needs and best practices with counseling services operations, awareness and intervention programming. As a member of the Dean’s Leadership Team, works in close collaboration to provide vision and guidance to promote student success, retention and completion.
  • Serves as a member of the HEAT (Harper Early Alert Team) behavioral intervention team and provides coordination of counseling support for students identified in HEAT referrals.
  • Plans and facilitates staff meetings, including professional development sessions, trainings, and workshops, to provide support and coordination of counseling services.
Counseling Services Daily Operations
  • Monitors the scope and direction of Counseling Services, ensuring its operation is consistent and functional within accepted standards of counseling practice.
  • Establishes emergency response protocol for Counseling Services in collaboration with appropriate campus and community partners.
  • Networks with on-campus and community partners to provide informed and coordinated services for students.
Programming – Awareness, Prevention and Intervention
  • Works with team members to develop, promote and implement mental health awareness and suicide prevention education to the campus community, including Mental Health First Aid.
  • Develops and delivers staff training programs in crisis response in collaboration with the Harper College Police Department.
  • Provides targeted mental health awareness and suicide prevention programming to incoming students, student athletes, student leaders, and historically marginalized populations (e.g.students of color, international students, LGBTQ+ students, and students living with disabilities).
  • Serves as administrator for online screening tools and other on-line mental health resources (e.g.,Welltrack, Protocall, Togetherall and ULifeline).
  • Oversees the implementation of a Peer Support program through community partners, third party vendors and potentially an in-person program. Hires, trains, evaluates and supervises peer supporters.
Campus Communications and Marketing
  • Utilizes messaging, social media and other marketing tools to encourage students to access mental health programming, events, on-line mental health screening tools, information and counseling services.
  • Expresses empathy and respect in all aspects of human diversity; will engage directly and assertively in conflict resolution when the need arises in the workplace.
Data, Reporting and Budget Management
  • Responsible for all grant funding documentation and implementation in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Analyzes, tracks, and reports data regarding counseling services and makes appropriate recommendations to Dean.
  • Establishes business processes, creates and maintains policy/procedure manuals, and develops forms and other aids that assist counseling staff in providing professional and standardized care.
  • Manages the use of counseling software (Titanium) to ensure counseling notes and records are created and secured in a manner that is consistent with professional standards.
  • Manages budgets, establish funding priorities and approve programs and services.
  • Participates in College and divisional committees as appropriate.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
Educational Requirements: Master’s degree in Counseling or Social work with independent license/license-eligible in the state of Illinois (LCPC or LCSW) required.

Experience Requirements: Minimum 2 years of experience in mental health care and at least two years of supervisory/management experience with mental health services. Preferred experience: working at a Higher Education Institution or internship experience in Higher Education.
