Description

We are seeking a dynamic, motivated individual for the Deputy Director role of a new project focused on Global Health Program Evaluation, Analysis, Research and Learning (GH PEARL), funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The Deputy Director will be responsible for the day-to-day operational and management needs of GH PEARL, including development of work plans, project management and budgeting, technical reporting, performance tracking, and ensuring timely completion of key deliverables. S/he will ensure the successful implementation of global and country-based activities in GH PEARL as agreed upon with USAID’s core offices and country missions. Further, the Deputy Director will contribute their expertise in MERL as strategic directions and future activities are developed and implemented.

Qualifications

10 years of professional experience working in global health and/or in low- and middle-income countries and donor interface and management experience, preferably with USAID-funded projects.

D emonstrated experience in project operations and management with increasing levels of responsibility, including but not limited to project and team management, technical writing, and budget management .

Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills in English; high comfort level writing and presenting data and information in a compelling way to different audiences. Additional language capabilities preferred.

Masters-level training in public health or related field (e.g., development, international relations) .

Familiarity and/or experience with key concepts and methods for monitoring, evaluation, research, and learning to confidently discuss technical topics with collaborators and funders; health and health systems issues in sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia; and/or experience with family planning, or reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health, or nutrition.

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
